    I have a 2015 PreRunner 4 cylinder Automatic.

The dealership did the first four oil changes but the last couple oil changes I did. I found that when changing the oil, it takes 4.6 Qts of oil to bring the level up to the top line on the stick.

Strangely, the manual says that it should take 6 Qts of oil when I replace the filter at the same time.

I've owned a lot of cars/trucks over the years and I have always found the manual to be fairly close on the oil capacity until I changed the oil on this truck. Anyone else change their own oil and notice this? This probably also explains why the dealership kept overfilling it. They read in the manual the capacity and then put in too much!

Yes, I change the filter also and I also fully drain the oil.

I can't believe the manual is so far off on the capacity.

I'd follow the manual honestly. my 2011 says it takes 6 and ive been putting 6 in every change for 100k miles. never a problem.

Yeah that's weird. The V6 only gets 5.5 quarts so it doesn't make sense in my mind why a smaller engine would get more oil.

the manual can be wrong, I had a GEN1 TRD automatic transmission the manual said the trans. takes 2.1 quarts to fill in reality a full pan drain took 4 quarts to fill.

Okay, so several of you just put in 6. BUT, after you do this and check the dipstick is it overfilled?

I've always put 6 quarts with a new filter. I don't even fuck with the dipstick.

The manual says 6 quarts with filter change. I buy the 5 quart jug and a filter. Five quarts with a filter change brings my oil level to 1/2 way between low and full on the dip stick....that's good enough for me as my 2TR-FE doesn't burn or leak oil between changes.

You let the engine run for a few minutes for the oil filter to fill up, right?

Anyway, the manual says the dipstick reading takes precedence over the reference oil capacity.

This, exactly. The oil level is not required to be exactly at the full mark. Anywhere between the two marks is "OK" and 5 quarts is plenty of oil for the 4-cylinder.

Im at 222k miles and ive always put 6qts in it when changing the filter as well. Mine burns a quart between changes so i always end up with roughly 5 whenever i change it the next time around.

    This ^^

The capacity of the 2.7 is 6 quarts. It ends up being about 5.5 with the filter, as there usually a bit that doesn't drain out.

I've own 2 4 banger Tacos before my current rig. 5.5 -5.75 is spot on
