I have a 4x4 2.7l 5 speed AC and i absolutely love it. When i first bought the truck driving home i was tempted to go back and get a 6 cylinder it just felt like such a dog i thought it was a joke. (coming from an STI especially) Once i got used to it I dont think there is another truck in the world i would trade my little tacoma for, the truck just performs flawlessly, its quite smooth and has just enough power for me. After getting past the fact im not racing around in it I love it. Not to mention i get 24-25 mpg consistently.

Well you have heard it all best bet go drive both with what ever you intend to do with it if you have some thing to tow go get it and take it for a ride. You are the one that has to be happy with it to do what you want race, tow, or pick up groceries.

If you plan on adding bigger tires, and still driving it on the highway, you will want to re-gear.

I got 32" M/T's on a 3 inch lift with an IFS skid and Sliders and it struggles to maintain highway speeds on the mountains here in WV. I plan on getting 4.56 gears installed as soon as I get the cash.

Stock it was great, enough power to get around without constantly downshifting at the sight of a hill (everytime I drive up to Morgantown there's a few hills I have to pop it in 3rd to get up @60mph) but bigger tires will kill your power.

Would I do it again? Ask me again when I get gears :)

I have like mine so much that I bought my wife one (4runner). 2.7 is great when your running 35s and 5.29 gears. Its parked during the winter which I hate doing but soon as the snow is gone it will be back. Great motor, good mpg, low maintance.. Can't complain. still going strong, bought with 33s stock gears with 88k on the motor. 100k is when I put the 35s on and now its got 145k with no problems. I love toyota but my 5.7 tundra get bad mpgs, 12 in city and 15 on the high way so... Yes I would do it again..
