I have a 4 banger 6 speed manual -its fine-no issues. Ill keep my tires at 265, any bigger I would probably feel the lack of power.

i'm about ready to trade my 14mpg avg v6 for a 4 banger esp. if gas goes way up like they say it's going to

yeah it's leveled at 1.75in in the front but come on:rolleyes:

saturday on the highway on our way home running 73mph my ultra gauge showed an instant 13.5-14.5mpg into a headwind, it's not like i'm drivin a freakin 3/4 ton 75 chevy with 40in tires

2.7 , Never needed the extra power, 2.7 has extra power too.If extra power was needed I woulda kept the diesel I had.

V6 is the only way unless all you haul in your truck is your own ass .

Nope, v8 tows more than the 4.0 , diesel even more so , so you settled on a lil ol v6. Why settle for less man. Get that v8 tundra , V6, its so "too lazy to get a v8 to haul".:D

Just don't talk about something you don't know. I have owned the 4cyl, and you can haul until you're on the bumpstops in the bed, no power problem, at all.

Also, it does have a 3500 towing capacity, which might be enough for a lot of people.

4 , 6 buy what ya like , but one isnt better than the other. My view just 1 reason for the v6 , it tows a trailer up to 6500 lb. My reg cab hauls more cargo in the bed by allowable weight, so it actually beats the v6 in that area.Go to towing ,its 3500 vs 6500 lb get the v6. Compensating? ..... talk down the 4 and boast the 6. I suspect 10-20% of v6 owners do it for that reason.

I thought I could give my opinion in here .

If you are happy with the abilities of your truck , great .

Basically its not a 4vs6 issue. He wants an auto and a doublecab ( or is he trolling to pit us against each other).....if he wants the auto , its there now for 2011 , V-weed just has to decide on the DC,if so its a v6 4x4 , or a 4 cyl prerunner.
As big as the DC 4wd is I personally wouldn't go 4 cyl. 4cyl is great in my 3600lb (no fuel/driver)range truck, but i suspect a DC 4wd is around 4100lb.

Lets see, $4.00 a gallon and climbing. No brainer get the 4. Happy with my double cab auto 4 cylinder. Don't underestimate this engine! If you need the torque for initial power it's there.

Nothing major or fancy. Just stuff to make it work better for me. Running boards, seat covers, BakFlip
I just traded in my 09 four banger stick 4x4 and got a 2011 4x4 with the 6 and an automatic. I like the 6 much better. The difference in mpg isn't enough to worry about and the increase in power and performance is worth it. I was disappointed with the 4 and my gas is a write-off anyway.

I work in the mountains and drive a lot of rough steep logging roads. Sometimes the roads aren't even formally open yet and they're little more than deer trails. The four banger had to work pretty hard to haul everything I need for a day's work. The 6 just kind of loafs along and never strains.

As far as carrying capacity goes, unless you load insanely heavy there isn't any real difference. Who ever weighs what they load? Especially when you carry the same stuff on a daily basis. I don't know exactly what 3 full size saws, fifteen or twenty gallons of gas and oil, tools, chokers, tow chains, snow chains in winter, axes, shovels, spare parts, a thirty gallon drum of hydraulic oil and (most importantly) my lunch, weigh but it's not light. On the same ground, with the same road conditions, the 6 just hauls it easier. On the way home I'll usually cut a little firewood and that adds to the weight. Again...no problem.

And...when I get back to civilization if I need to put my right foot down hard, which I usually don't, that extra acceleration is nice.

I'd definitely go with the i4 5 speed, one if the best combos you can get in a truck. Lasts longer than the 6, costs less to maintain, cheaper to fix, more readily available parts kicking around, plus its better on gas even with the big tires and towing. You got a Cummins for the big stuff, why not keep the best engine/tranny combo you can get in a midsize pick up. You won't win any races and you won't haul the biggest load but you'll have more money in you're pocket come time to replace something. 4cyl all the way dude.

My thoughts exactly. My little 5-Lug gets around just fine and can tow or haul an ATV/snowmobile in the bed. Not only that it gets ~26mpg in my day to day driving.
