1 legit TOYOTA complaint, and that was in canada ;) lol im uncaring about shitty jiffy lube or a valvoline etc., of course id NEVER go to one of those... like i said i change my own oil every 5000 miles on the 2500 mile intervals, and let them (toyota) change it on the 5000's... I'll start checking my dipstick before I start it up from their bay, verifys i have 5.5 qts of new oil.. problem solved.

I used to work in a non-dealership auto chain years ago, and believe me the oil change guys can hose up an oil change.

Over-tightening/stripping the drain bolt, letting customers drive off without oil in the car, going to lunch after doing everything to the oil change BUT add oil... you name it, they'll do it.

The top tier techs don't usually do just an oil change. Many dealers have an oil change lane that does nothing but oil changes.

    - 5 QT Jug of Mobile 1 5W-30 Extended Performance or the regular Full Synthetic. Whichever walmart has at the time + a 1QT jug of the same oil. Engine requires 5.5 quarts.

    - Toyota Oil Filter: 90915-YZZD3

    - Make sure you undo the bolt for the oil pan and not transmission oil

    Tip:
See that spout under the oil filter?

Grab a water bottle and put it there when you remove the old oil filter. Some people use a tube, i just found a water bottle to be easier.

And this is what the top of your oil cap should look read

My wife has a 2011 4runner and at 4500 miles the light came on. Took it to the dealer because she has "free" oil changes for life and they said the light meant tires need to be rotated. Oil changes are every 10,000 miles and tire rotations are every 4500... Why in the hell should you rotate your tires every 4500 miles?

Gotta love how the LSx motors love to go through oil like that. I had an 07 Impala SS and the LS4 in that went through oil like that as well.

I'd rather piss away money than to piss away my truck. I took my truck to the dealer for the 5k service @ 4,500 miles, they got done & replaced the windshield sticker that said "come back at 10,500 for your next service." Of course dealers differ from place to place but you hardly read good reviews from having your vehicle serviced.

You haven't been on here long enough to doubt the dealer yet. Before I joined the forum, I was exactly like you. I thought there was no better place to get your oil changed (or any work done for that matter). After reading a years worth of threads, you realize, the dealership makes tons of mistakes. When it comes to a simple oil change, I trust myself way more than just anyone working on my truck.

There was some guy here posting videos of how his truck was running badly, engine issues, etc. When he was advised to check the oil level, zippo. Where's that crush washer hmmmm! Was an oil change he paid for.

My mother used to complain when the dealer would overfill her Mazda. She'd have to point out the capacities page when they'd tell her how many qts they put in. Which they'd then have to drain down.

This... This is why I won't let them do it... That's what happened to my buddy with his FJ... That's also why my last thread said "conventional oil?" because they told my buddy with the FJ all new yotas have synthetic... Fuck them got my filters and crush washers.. I'm good to go!

You posted earlier that oil changes were so easy that your 4 year old nephew could do it. The links I posted show even with people that are supposedly trained to do it right they still screw it up either by accident or not giving a shit. The dealership is a way better choice but i've read of mishaps there too...good luck.

The base I work on has a well equipped auto hobby shop and I used to enjoy changing my own oil. Now it's just one more thing I don't have time to do anymore. My dealer's oil change/tire rotation lane is cheap, fast, reliable and they wash the truck too, plus they install a new crush washer every time, something some of these "do it right yourself" guys seem to forget. I don't have to clean the stall or dispose of the oil & filter or get my clothes dirty. Wait, what was this thread about?
