Maybe it's like a spray paint can, you know where they put the ball in the can and you can shake it up... Maybe it's to help shake up the gear oil in the tranny

Is it making noise? Does it shift correctly? If you are worried i would call marlin crawler and ask to speak with their trans experts (most likely Dave or Marlin himself) and pick their brains before you speculate yourself into a corner, or out of a bunch of money. When i was having trans problems they were very helpful, just watch out they talked me into a "new" trans from them LOL.

I hear a noise but can't say positively where it's coming from. Usually happens under deceleration while in gear/downshifting. Literally sounds exactly like someone kicking an empty soda can across the ground. Sounds fine under acceleration.

It seems to shift correctly, but sloppy/clunky compared to the Tacoma. I don't have much experience to go on, as these two specific trucks are the only ones I've ever driven with a manual transmission (test driven or otherwise ).

Jon, my trans never made any noise until the day it died, even then it would still move under it's own power. (but it was ugly sounding)

You can all go back to your homes, I found the source of the noise.

Removed the mounting band since the threads were gone and used a pipe clamp. Sound is gone now. :humble:

Still doesn't explain the ball bearing sitting on the drain plug though. Unless Eric was correct.

Suppose I'll run it the way it is until it blows up.

Just about fully done with the firewall. Hoping to get the boat sides finished up and a backbone done on the 14B by tomorrow. Unfortunately have to wait to finish the floor and tranny hump until I can find a seat arrangement that works. Pics THOON.

I think while the truck is in hibernation, I'll focus on cleaning up and fully assembling the drivetrain, build the scatter shield, and make a triple stick setup.

You should build a bigger garage, then you'll have all kinds of space to think about what to cut off your truck next! :luvya:
