So the A340 I picked up is technically an A340E for the 2WD trucks. The yard I picked it up from didn't charge extra when they pulled a tail housing from an A340F (4WD) for me as well. I gave them the working W59 as the core.

There are some minor differences in the tail end, but it's easier than trying to swap the front, IMO.

The most obvious difference is the length of the output shaft.

    2WD

[IMG]IMG_20160407_172024195 by Jonathan Krajnak, on Flickr

    vs. the 4WD

So I needed to chop approximately 2.1" off of the 2WD output in order for the crawl box to be mounted.

[IMG]IMG_20160407_172104679 by Jonathan Krajnak, on Flickr

I did a rough chop to get it mocked up. I won't need the 4-pronged magnetic speed sensor since this will be a semi-auto transmission. So I'm going to look into the possibility of getting the splines machined for the full length and then heat or cryo treated. The A340 did move the crawl box/tcase back ~ another inch, so I have to clearance the crossmember a little.

LOTS of wiring, dual battery setup, Solar charging system, with some random lights spread around here and there.

Well..............................back to square one. Might as well just order more tube and cut it back down to the frame...........Looks good though

Actually that shackle is solely for a suck-down winch.

Had the opportunity today to drool over a local Wisconsin guy's stock-ish '89 Pickup. It only took him 14 years so there's hope for me yet!!

Noop. 37"s. Eventually. Wasn't in a hurry to sell (hell, I wasn't even sure IF I'd sell them). On top of it being a real pain to stuff, flex, and clear 40"s lock-to-lock with my setup, there's a 'no bigger than 37" rule for 4500 class. Plus, I'm toying with the idea of going with re-centered humvee wheels and tires for screwing around with and won't break the bank if I destroy tires left and right.

The cash couldn't come at a better time. I need about $1k to restore the '81 before it becomes too far gone. The rust is creeping up fast, the windshield leaks, the wiring needs to be replaced and the engine needs a rebuild. BAD.
