We just ran the rubicon. Only one real tippy thing by buck but had no issues really at 130 inch wheelbase. A couple places I needed to do multiple point turns but nothing more than normal lol
my ideal wb would be 118-122 or so just to stay out of the 4 door jeep holes and I prefer a longer wheelbase and wide axles. Being 130 now isn’t bad and I have plans to add a rear driveline disconnect to use with the cutting brakes which will help more

It really depends on the trails you wheel. If you wheel in very tight tree line trails, with hills with ledges at the top than the SWB would be better, long hill climbs or rock strewn trails, longer is better. Kind of a broad question, you really need to look at the terrain you primarily wheel in and what you use the truck for, not nessasarily how someone else built a truck where they wheel.

My truck is low slung, bed unbobbed and stock Xtra cab wheelbase, a vast majority of the time it's awesome, but 19pt turns suck, my body is mangled from using it as a tree/rock pivot and there are some trails or obstacles that I know will be hell for me or I'll have to pull cable just looking at them. Meanwhile jeep yjs are bouncing through the obstacles with no issues.

That's a fantastic point, I appreciate the feedback. I guess I'm really just looking at the most versatile wheelbase. Not great at one thing but good at most things. I would take this truck hopefully from the western coast to the eastern coast. That's why I'm kinda curious about to see what others would rather have

If I were to do it again... I don't know that I personally would have went as long. For where my link mounts were, it gave me the anti-dive, COG, and etc numbers I wanted. But, like @slander said, the pivoting around shit sucks. I run 42s because I don't carry a spare drive shaft, and being that long is asking for a high-center incident.

The plan after my LS swap this winter is to shorten the rear and do trailing arms. I will still probably be around 125-130 because even though body fulcrums are annoying in the trees, I really like that most of the time my front tires get over the crest of an obstacle with room to spare for the rear to approach the bottom.

    Doesn't always help though.

Yeah I'm just specifically talking the regular cab vs xtra/double cab 1st gens. The wheelbases are 103" and 109", respectively and I'm trying to decide which platform I want to start the build on so at full caster, I'd still only be around 113" max

Honestly, the tech you are getting in here is from guys that really don't care what the wheelbase is to start...The majority of the guys responding are all SA and way beyond trying to stretch wheelbase with IFS alignments. We're buying the cab that fits our needs and setting wheelbase from there on what our needs/wants are and then landing the axles there to make it work.

It was for sale again. Jon was eye balling it as it was only 2k as a roller. No engine anymore. I don't think he ended up doing it though @45acp not that he gets on here anymore anyways..

What happened to the engine? Someone rob it?
Sounds like it was a pretty sweet turbo 3rz setup based on the listings on the first page

He must have sold it yeah. Didn't have a turbo setup on it yet. But I think it did have some LCE performance parts in it.

Part of the problem was the 'new' site. Every since TW was updated, I couldn't keep track of threads or stay updated as easily as I used to.

But here we go again, in double cab flavor

Hopefully I don't do anything stupid. If I could have any vehicle regardless of cost, it'd be a 1st gen double cab.

I've been behaving with this last Xtra cab with no mods to it. Hell, I've barely been keeping up with maintenance. I don't even know how long this rear shock has been busted.
