Which items can an amateur do in their garage? (besides the obvious like an oil change)
Which should be done by a professional? (besides the obvious like re-torquing propeller shaft)

This is coming from an owner who has changed oil and tires, but not willing to do the brakes, for example.

I would do what you are comfortable with.
Lots of utube video’s that have good instructions. It’s hard to say what is considered a beginner or advanced maintenance item since everyone has different experiences with mechanical repairs . A simple job like an oil change can be super easy for one person and the nightmare for another . Breaking things stripping bolts over filling. .not trying to steer you away from doing it your self just letting you know what might and can happen . It’s a learning experience.

Honestly, the only thing I’d be hesitant about is the transmission fluid flush/drain and fill. And that’s only because I’ve not done or read the procedure to get in temp mode step by step.

Having said that I’m a former helicopter mechanic so I’m pretty confident in my abilities…. But that increase my ability to break things too.

There is a great thread here somewhere listing the maintenance roadmap with tons of information. I’ll try and find it and add it here.

As for brakes, watch this video and evaluate your own skills and confidence to do the job yourself.
