    Thanks. I work in the woods and we have company trucks (I use my own taco) and hate hearing people trying to maneuver in 4hi in a loaded down super duty and I think poor transmission. Put it in 4lo fool! Lol

    Not exact math but figure 4lo will give you say double the torque at the wheel at the cost of half the wheel speed. So first gear in 4lo feels like .5 gear. Useful when power and control are more important than speed and mpgs

    Ask people with real low crawling gears and lockers... yes you are adding stress and more likely to break stuff. But also less stress on clutch, transmission etc. But then again wheeling in a year old truck isnt really the best thing for it but i didnt buy a truck to pamper it. Bought it because it can take the abusedownloadfile-4.jpg4lo territory for sake of my suspension and clutch. Dont usually have a photo crew with me! That was a fun day

    I use 4lo quite often to take strain off of the engine and trans, especially on long, steep hills, and loose terrain.

    For fun, climb a hill in 4hi and watch your transmission temps. Now do it in 4lo. Heat is the enemy of the transmission, and utilizing 4lo vs 4hi typically keeps that heat at bay.

    I myself, in my limited wheeling time, actually use 4lo in spots where 2wd would do, mainly because I drive a manual on stock suspension and at a couple miles an hour I'm like halfway out on the clutch if I'm in 2wd. 4lo lets me keep the clutch out all the way so I can just drive at normal RPM's at a slow speed.

    On another note, are some of you guys saying that using 4lo while wheeling will actually keep my transmission temp down? Also, very stupid question, but can I shift through the years in 4lo? I've never left first gear before while in 4lo.

    Hardly ever use 4hi. Mostly just to save wear and tear on fire roads and double track. 4Lo is mostly used for the wheeling that I do. been wheeling for over 20 years and this has always been the same despite the vehicle I'm wheeling.

    Indeed. When presented with adding strain on the engine/trans vs. strain on t-case/diff I'll put that strain on the t-case/diff all day.

    I liked it a lot better when you said you were out. That failure has nothing to do with being in Low Range vs. High Range

    Yes, 4wd Low Range can help keep transmission temperatures down. It does this by reducing the strain on the internal clutches and keep the torque converter locked up.

    It had everything to do with it. I was there. That truck was in compound low in first gear with both front & rear diffs locked. Torque blew it apart.

    No, that falls under driver error not transfer case selection; sometime people forget they can't just point and shoot. Obviously I wasn't there, but I can guess he had a front wheel in a bind, front ARB engaged, and decide to double down with the crawl box and a little skinny pedal. If you change any one of those items the axle doesn't break.

    Plus, this is 3rd gen they don't have the torque of a 2nd gen to worry about. :D
