So I saw a mention somewhere of front brakes from an older 4Runner Limited bolting onto the 1st Gen Tacoma. This would be the "13WH" caliper and associated rotors/pads and so on.

I'm looking for more info, what years, and part numbers. The main stipulation is that you need 17" rims. I have 18" rims (Toyota TRD/"Darrel Waltrip" BBS RW wheels).

My preference currently is for NAPA's best for the calipers because they're powder-coated but to go with Toyota parts for rotors and probably pads.

It's my understanding that 4Runners used straight-in lines to the caliper as opposed to 1st Gen Tacoma banjo lines. Not interested in modifying anything, but am willing to get 4Runner hard lines and/or aftermarket SS lines.

My "fallback" route is to go with the Tundra 231mm setup, which presumably also uses straight-in (not banjo) fittings.

I just did the tundra brake upgrade which included Toyota OEM rotors, pads and the 231mm 13WL Toyota OEM Calipers. I used wheeler stainless steel braided brake lines and it all fit just fine on my Method double standard 16x8 wheels w/4.5" of BS. No spacers needed. And the stopping power is great!

Thanks for that confirmation about the 13WL/231 calipers. They take banjo lines, like stock Tacoma and Wheeler lines? Simple.

Interested in knowing if anyone's done 13WH caliper and rotors, presumably larger yet.

I am pretty sure the limited 4runners have the 199 calipers.

I am running 231s on my Tacoma and they are absolutely worth the money. I'm running 16" wheels with 231s.

So these 'WH' calipers from a 4Runner Limited are even bigger than the double cab Tundra calipers??? Wow, you'd think the Tundra with it's weight and towing ability would get the bigger calipers. But then again the 4Runner was built in Japan and the Tundra here. I wonder if that would have anything to do with Toyota's decision to do that. Hard to see the logic when we don't have all of the info that goes into the decisions. I'm curious about this.

The WH's were the original calipers then Toyota retrofitted the calipers and the WL's are the newer ones. The WL's are 231mm's while the WH's are 199mm's

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry for spreading what was just a rumor read elsewhere. Didn't quite make sense to me, either.

I agree, naturally. So let me ask about the Wheelers braided lines, used with the 13WL (the 231mm) calipers. I've read that they don't require drilling out the banjo bolt, but don't understand why it's not necessary with them. Don't get me wrong, putting a drill to it is not something I'd want to do anyway. I suppose I'm just wanting some reassurance on that, thanks.

I just unscrewed the bolt out of the caliper took it out of the space on the end of the stock brake line and put it through the hole on the end of the wheelers brake line screwed it right back in with a copper washer on both sides of the the brake line that went around the bolt. The hardest part was connecting the other side of the line cause of that retaining clip that holds it on. That thing was b_t_ch to get off since I have 247,000 miles on my Tacoma. Luckily everything else went smoothly since I had an air impact gun. The brake lines were pretty much plug n play. I had to cut the dust shields on each end so the bigger caliper would fit and bend them back so they wouldn't hit the bigger rotor.

And the copper washer(s) was used because of the un-machined (rougher) mating surface on the new caliper, yes? Dumb question, who the heck sells copper washers of whatever size?

The copper washers came with the Wheeler's brake lines

Appreciate it; at this point I need to shut up and order some parts.

Yeah, I think you need to take yours entirely apart, and buy new, irrelevant, wrong parts and figure it all out from scratch. It's the only way! :)
