I just did some digging and I hope this will help out you all putting 4runner seats in your tacomas. Apparently the 96-98 base model 4runner seats use completely different mounts. You can verify this by looking at the feet. The ones you need should have the sideways mount to attach to the transmission tunnel and the inside rear. I believe the 96-98 base model seats are the "lesser" quality ones anyway, and don't provide any side bolster support.

Not necessarily, the base model seats look like the stock tacoma seats. If you have seats that have side bolsters then they should work. Did you check the feet?

Fox 2.0 Coilovers in the front and Fox 2.0’s in the rear, Total Chaos UCA’s, Al-lpro expo leafs, K&N cold air intake, TRD headers,Magnaflow catback exhaust,URD short throw shifter, switched out my 60/40 bench seat for some Tacoma Limited seats, Replaced the vinyl shift boot for a leather one, completely soundproofed the cab w/ Frost King. Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
I’d buy a pair. Even though i already have Limited Tacoma seats, I’ll most likely drive these trucks till my heart stops beating and the chances of me finding another pair of Limited 1st gen Tacoma seats are slim
    To none.

I do think I've noticed something like that while scoping the yards. Had no idea why, but now it's nice to know when I'm out searching

Can you post a pic of the correct feet so I don’t buy the wrong seats?

I'd like to see what sets people end up using; again I just bought these to buy these but I may be convinced to swap 4runner seats in sooner than later.

I went through the trouble of swapping Lexus ES300 and Scion tC seats into my truck, but they both didn’t work right and sat too high. I’m just going to end up with 4Runner seats.

I ended up having the right seats, I pulled them a year ago from my 98 base 4runner.. it had the 2.7 in it as well if that matters.

If you can wait until tomorrow I'll pull the seats back out of the bed of the truck (it's at work cause that's the only place I have room to swap motors at lol) and snap some pictures for you

Wish I had this option. From what I can tell the Oak and Moon mist were the only colors. I could spray paint the plastic and get them reupholstered but that's some cash right there.

There are quite a few parts that are interchangeable. For instance I put auto/up down windows from a limited 4Runner in my tacoma.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/4runner-auto-up-down-windows.380826/

I also have heated mirrors with integrated turn signals and puddle lights. These are from a 4Runner but the lights are from Japan. I have a set that I’m trying to sell right now.

You can also look in my build thread for more ideas.
