Awesome. I dont even have 4runner seats yet, been searching for the right pattern/price for awhile now. So once you get a 2nd batch going, I'll grab a set then.

I just got hold of some nice 4runner seats and came across this great idea for mounting while searching TW. I love how you dont need to drill holes in the body for this solution!

Question: if you put 1/4" steel under just one foot, doesn't this make the seat sit uneven though? Do you add washers under the other feet or is this just not an issue?! Am I alone that I was out there with a level while trying to mount my seats?! I am trying to get rid of that being crooked in my cab feeling here after all!

Oh yeah, and I would buy a set if you are making some anytime soon... These beauties are calling out to my spine as we speak (donor: 2002 4runner sport, they call this gray actually but does not match the Tacoma gray same year)!

How come one couldn’t take 4Runner seats out of a 3rd gen and unbolt them from their base and mount them onto their Tacoma base?

I have Limited Tacoma seats and I don’t believe Toyota would of made two different sets of seats for two different vehicles when so much of the 3rd gen 4Runners and 1st gen Tacoma’s were interchangeable?

Tacomas were designed and built here in US. They shared some components (engine, transmission, transfer, various electrical) off of the 4Runner, Hilux and Hilux Surf, Land Cruiser Prado which were designed and built in Japan and shipped all over the world. Plenty of parts are different between Tacoma and 4Runner and a few are shared, the frames are obviously from a different manufacturer :Dthere wasn't a frame service campaign for 4Runner:rofl:

You are right, Toyota does try to re-purpose parts as much as feasible. Heck if memory servers me correctly, I think they saved a little German company called Porsche when they showed them this technique (e.g Boxster with 911 headlamps). However, not all parts and trucks are the same of course.

Swapping rails may be feasible if you have the Tacoma buckets, not sure. In my case the stock bench (not 60/40) has a totally different frame and feet. I saw a thread where someone took the feet off the rails, and welded them to the 4runner rails.

I was thinking about sliding the outside rail off my bench on to the 4Runner seat since the inside lines up nicely, but when I looked at the feet from my stock bench they sit waaaaaay lower than the 4Runner, and as stated I dont want to sit crooked!

Another fun fact I recalled, I have seen the 4Runner seats actually in Tacoma's from the factory. I believe they were optional "sport seats" that you could only get on a 4x4 or Pre-runner. I have only seen two trucks like this ever, but these would bolt in all around and have the proper Tacoma fabrics (which again were very different from the 4Runner these years).. and you all thought it was hard to find 4Runner seats!?!

Are you referring to the Limited seats? If so, I scored these bad boys off a guy on here that saw I was looking for some aftermarket seats and he found these in a junkyard in Tacoma with the Limited package and happen to live right down the street from me!-$250... I couldn’t get to the atm fast enough.

Oh boy, you got yourself the golden unicorn of Tacoma seats, this is exactly what I was referring to!! Didnt know they were part of a Limited package though, would be cool if we could look up the vin to get the factory specs and options right from toyotaowners.com!

Those would sell for 3-4 times that price on ebay, and yes thats an offer to buy!! Is that gray?

And oh yeah, the most important question of all, they bolted right in all around correct?

I don’t have any measurements to back this up, but I know the stock Tacoma seats mount on a rubber bushing on that particular foot. This adapter is almost exactly the same height as that bushing.

this of course assumes that the floor pans are the same on 4runners and Tacoma’s. I don’t really think they are.

Yes those are the limited Tacoma seats and they will bolt right in. They are NOT 4runner seats.

From my research, any Tacoma called “limited” from 95-00 would have those. They also exist, sometimes in leather, in 01-04. Either way, they are rare since I believe the “limited” was not a factory option, only a dealer package.

Interesting, I wonder if that foot or the floor pan changed in 01.

When I started to bolt my 4runner seats in, I attached the transmission tunnel bolt first so I could see how far off the outside rear one was. It wasn’t being forced into the floor pan, so the added 1/4” was negligible.

again, this could be completely different on your truck.

:notsure: Ive heard the newer taco seats fit just fine in the older trucks. But mine are just bolted to the floor, no bushing.

I originally had 60/40 seats in my truck and the passenger seat was bolted to the floor instead of the transmission tunnel at the rear inside mount.
I believe the driver 60 was using both transmission tunnel mounts, but I took that out almost 10 years ago so it's hard to remember.

They must have just changed the design of the mount.

By floor I also meant the tranny tunnel. Misunderstood haha. 3 into the floor, and one in the tunnel.
