Given a fully tarted Off Road 6MT doesn't even hit $50,000 for 2023, I strongly suspect a Gen4 Off Road would be well under $55,000, apples to apples equipment/option wise.

I hope so! I can't imagine paying that much for a Tacoma.

I assume pricing and configuration may be farther down the line this year than whatever reveal is coming in a couple weeks? There will reach a point where it will get too rich for my blood for a depreciating asset. $50k for a light duty fun truck I don’t realllllly need, and I am going to start to look at manual transmission cars with engines by the back bumper unless they post some impressive utility and efficiency bumps.

Wow, you’re not wrong. I’d go used 911 or new Cayman before a Vette, but that’s not really the point here..

No money, all went to truck...
I agree, this speculation is what causes misinformation. Like believing rumors of no MT in 2024 and rush to buy a 2023 MT...

Ya that is how I got this truck and I just put $3,000 of paint protection film on it this past week planning to keep it for 20 years. I guess I am going to keep it for a while then at this point.

I hope they finally put keyless entry and start with the manual. I for one have never used or cared for cancel clutch start. I get the benefits of a key, however, the keyless convenience far outweighs for me. Even my 2013 Mazdaspeed came keyless with three pedals!

Check out the Yotawerx Tune. It can help smooth out the powerband and worth the investment if you keep it. That being said, this V6 needs forced induction in order to produce enough torque to pull or tow. Turbos give that down low torque while keep the MPG's good when cruising. Guessing the 4th Gen will have a boosted option.

A tune is on the table if I keep it, but from the dyno charts I have seen at least, it does look like "the dip" will remain to some extent.

I'm in the minority where I am generally satisfied with the overall power* but I'd love it if they could get me mid-20's out on the highway (without having to drive <60 in 70 degree weather with zero wind). My guess is they'll chase peak numbers for the HP wars and have marginal real world efficiency improvements. The wild card would be if the turbo platform would make an efficiency tune possible..and it's not so much that I am an eco geek, but a few-four MPG difference would really add up in savings over a year's driving, or even just one long road trip.

*I have not towed anything yet..but with my steep driveway, the reverse gearing is pretty irritating..

Reverse gearing is the worst, especially on a hill with a manual. Hopefully they fix this in 4thG. Below is one of the best mods I ever made on my truck, especially when backing into tight spaces or towing. Highly recommend it:

I had been eyeing that. Would be nice for taking some heat off the clutch when teaching family members how to drive a manual as well. My big fear is all the interior parts removal creating a lot of interior rattles and squeaks..but, another one of those things that's waiting until I decide if I'm going to stick with it or not.

Well, now I actually care about this generation. Bravo Toyota for not leaving us manual enthusiasts out in the cold.

It's technically keyless now. I do wish it was "touchless" like the automatics. I still like turning the key but not having to fumble with the keys to open the door would be nice.

FWIW, it's not an arduous install, and I've had no issues with squeaks after doing it, really makes a difference on steep driveways though.

I speculate 4th gen MT will have what you called "touchless". It's called keyless entry and almost always tied with push-button start in Toyota world.

That being said, turn key ignition does have it's benefit, it's a little bit harder to steal compared to those push-button start ones.

The key is the manual enthusiasts have to do our part and buy them new to show justification for this.

part of it is Toyota's own fault.
They kept on saying only a single digit percentage of Tacomas (or any manual Toyota for example non turbo Corolla Hatchback) are sold with 6MT, the truth is that Toyota deliberately cap the number of manual transmission units produced and that creates a shortage and limitation of choices.

When I was shopping for a Tacoma back in 2019, I could have ANY trim (even Pros with 6AT) to pick easily on the lot, manual was hard to find and I had to even wait. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this and someone with less patience could just easily give up and buy an automatic.

I think Toyota can safely produce 15% of all Tacoma in 6MT and should have no problem selling them

What I read was that they have to retool the assembly line so they make them once a quarter. I think there a lot of factors, not every trim comes in manual so that prices some out, regionally I think some areas get more than others. I flew up two states to get mine to avoid ADM and had to compromise on color to get it.
