I believe it was said that development time is about 5yrs at this point. Part of the 4th Gen delay is that the Tundra had delays from both starting late and current issues.

This is part of the reason that OEM electronics like infotainment seems lacking and behind. The development, integration, and production planning started way before other tech like a new cellphone model.

I was thinking in terms of Toyota or any brand looking at their competition/the market and trying to keep up or get ahead. Heck, in todays world if it took a company two years for a redesign then many features may already be old news ?

That is exactly it. But, most all car companies are playing with the same handicap. It is the comparison to other industries that hurts.

Also, cars that push the bleeding edge, like the M-B S-Class, are ones that spend a lot more time in the shop for issues. If you look up the issues per vehicle stats, Toyotas rank near the top across the board.

Tacoma sales usually increase every time a so called competitor comes out too.

Exactly. A new model whips the normies into a truck-buying frenzy, and on their way down to the dealer to buy a new Frontier or new Ranger or whatever, they make a last minute detour and buy a Tacoma.

The funny part is that if Toyota added a driver side grab handle, different grill, different taillights, new fabrics and a power passenger seat you'd have a ton of bumble fucks trading in their 2020/21's just because they don't want Steve their neighbor to think they're poor and driving ole shit.

If they do that, I promise to lurk their forums telling them my gen is wayyyyy better than their stupid 4G, even though the trucks are largely the same.

I can almost guarantee there won't be a new Tacoma design until 2023.

I thought that’s when the new 4Runner is coming. 4G Tacoma will be 2026 at soonest.

From what I've learned from working at a dealer I could see that being very realistic. HOWEVER, knowing Toyota since we literally can't keep 4rs in stock (we have 6 waiting customers for our next 6) I could see them extending it out and quite possibly releasing it with the Tacoma.

Yeah. The superflu has been a massive payday for Toyota. Everyone who used to go to Cancun is now going camping.

I don’t know, the Prius has proven to be a very reliable vehicle and platform.

It's incredible. We literally cannot keep any 4wd vehicle on the lot.
