If it can match or exceed the capabilities of the Rivian R1T then I'll be all over it!

I am curious about this as sites like fuelly.com don't have a transmission choice when reviewing averages. Is the fuel economy disparity actually there in real life compared to what testing and window stickers say? Informally looking here at TW and otherwise, I would say that MT and AT Tacos are getting roughly the same MPGs.

Thanks for all the good info!

I do feel the same as you about sports cars and other enthusiast vehicles. Even as a kid, I would instantly lose interest if I didn't see an MT through the window. It was the weirdest feeling to experience. These days, I just don't care much as I do about what is in my own garage since I see the writing on the wall.

So, TFL picked the '22 Ford Maverick for their 'Truck of the Year'. Unfortunately a Tacoma wasn't included in the competition. However, the 3rd gen Tundra came in second.

So, what's the consensus. 2024 model year or 2023? Want to pick up a final year 3rd gen before they're gone.

Im a member of various vehicle groups on facebook for entertainment, one of them being a Ford maverick group. I found it funny when today a maverick owner was getting dumped by other members because he just traded in his maverick for a Honda Ridgeline.

If I recall, they've planned a 2023 release for the 2024 model year Tacoma. Perhaps the plan may change now that they are considering a BEV pickup.

TFL finally received a Rivian R1T and created a new channel called TFL EV. Hopefully Toyota's new BEV Pickup is as good or better than the R1T.

This cannot be said any better. I thank you for your credible firsthand insight and like many others, politely pointing this out. I haven't logged in since early November and I find disappointing, what I noticed in absentia while lurking recently, where one dingus laid into another forum member, doing a great effort keeping people aware of what to expect in terms of timeline.

I cannot believe how so tone deaf, some people on this forum can be and not listen to what you've said, from the horse's mouth. Thank you again, again, and again.

I might have gotten internal confirmation, that you are looking at the 2024 Tacoma, with some clever little (obvious) changes to it. This comes from someone else who has seen the truck and answered my curious questions. Toyota really wants to get it out there, but are hamstrung by the amount of lead time required to develop the vehicle in general. If they could have it ready for 2023.5 at this point, they would do it. Just not viable. I know the man in charge of prototyping for 920B and although he refuses to answer 90% of my questions, everything DJ has said is dead accurate and quite noble in the first place, to be reiterating as a more public, additional firsthand source.

The representation above is a 1:1 Design Model, of the final design. I wasn't really sure why Toyota revealed this at all, especially THIS EARLY! Quickly, it made of lot of sense. From what I remember, all the competitors for Toyota in this class, both stateside and internationally, have played their cards. They are already released and for sale (Frontier), prototype testing (Ford Ranger and GM midsizers), or too far along to make changes (2023.5 Nissan Navara) based on this reveal.

That right there is key. There are not that many entrants, who can steal this design language and come to market first. Secondly, most Tacoma owners are not even aware of this showcase and for those that are, deem it better to show them what is planned without direct mention, but not the whole deck of cards for the 2024 Tacoma. It's for the smart folks to read between the lines simply and see it now.

Very shocked with this bold move though, as this was done 25-26 months prior to currently projected launch. It's 95% accurate from what I have been told and that 5% is the grille. Since May 2021, development of prototype test vehicles for 920B has been in progress. The first shots of course appeared back in October, which makes sense. I reckon that 920B design freeze occurred last spring (April 2021) and that explains the final design selection process going through the rounds in late 2020.

Any word on powertrains? I still feel like a turbo 4 banger is it in one or more forms. I can't see the V6 being there, or the 6AT either since 6 gears is 4 too few by even todays standards. I won't mention the 6MT fate...
