My problem with $WD and radio is hitting the damn 'mode', 'phone', and other buttons on the steering wheel when I'm off road! I wish there was a fuse I could undo when I wheel.

lol yeah, thats why I removed it. In reference to the radio issue though, the damned thing turns on and off when going around corners and seems to be triggerred by the headlight switch as well. Possibly an electric surge when turning the headlights on/off.

Is there any reason that the rear axle might be locking up? Thats the best way I can describe the sensation; like trying to take a corner on a quad.

I dont have the TRD package, so I'm thinking no. Do the base models come with a locker?

No beeping. The road conditions were wet from heavy rain, so traction control is a good thought, but there wasn't any indication that it was kicking in.

Would you describe the rear locking up as possibly a binding issue, and what kind of surface are you turning on on when this happens...dirt, pavement, snow, etc.

Not sure what you mean by binding issue. It happened on the road after heavy rain. I was hoping the 4WD would provide some extra control on the side streets

No, I'm relieved, I'd rather it be me than my $36k truck. I can live with the radio. You guys had any luck with any particular aftermarket tires? The traction while in 2WD was pretty poor which is why I made the mistake of switching into 4.

No, it was wet pavement, but it sounds like even that isn't a good idea.

It might just be binding. Driving in 4WD on pavement is not recommended. Does is seem like the wheels are locked up and hard to turn while cornering?

I know that about 4 low, but I though 4 hi was ok for slippery road conditions. This is a real eye openner. I really appreciate the help, and I hope you guys will welcome me in your forum in the future.

Binding is the perfect description. No more 4WD on the road for me.

As far as the "clunk" noise when disengaging from 4hi back to 2wd, take your foot off the gas so there is no load on the drive line, then turn the knob. It will get smoother the more you use it. Like mentioned, 4lo is just for crawling at low speed offroad. Hope we helped out, and welcome aboard!

Just please refrain from talking trash about your truck only to find the problem wasn't the truck at all. If you have problems in the future just ask, there's alot of help here. Our trucks aren't perfect, but most problems can be fixed. I personally would never engage my 4WD system on wet pavement but I've read some do to help lubricate the components...but only while driving straight. Your best bet is to find some dirt or snow.
