Good Morning. I wanted to share a quick video on a few things. One is some of the upgrade ideas that I have that will happen over the next year or so. Let me know what you think and maybe some suggestions. All will be on the 5 Lake's Garage channel. The other is something that some of you might know already. It was driving me nuts that I had to shut the truck off and back on just to go to 4wd Low. (Manuals only) I went to two different dealerships and no one could tell me why. I finally found a forum that helped me figure it out. Life is a bit better now.

If it works for you then great but some of us have this problem.

    Here is the procedure.
    2h
    4h
stop (clutch in and in neutral)
    4L
    beep
    beep
    beep
    Double-clutch
    drive off in 4L

it just sits there beeping at you. Sometimes it will go in but most of the time it does.. The only thing I can think of is that the gears are not lined up correctly and by double-clutching, it lines up. Not sure but I have tried it several times. It works some of the time when I don't but all the time when I do.

If I had to guess, your floormat was getting in the way and the clutch wasn't being depressed enough to go into 4L. You really have to have that clutch pushed in far. I've seen that be an issue in two different third gens now.

Interesting.... I've never had to do that, and I'm surprised it works.

I just follow the owner's manual:

Ok. I will remove the floormat since it fastens into the floor and try it again.

'20 4WD OR with MT here and no problems going in and out of 4L for me either. It's definitely not a smooth engagement, but I probably have less than 500 miles on my truck in 4WD so I would imagine that over time things will get smoother.

I will add that you have to be dead-stopped when making the switch. A couple of times I've been barely rolling and it didn't like that.

If that were the case, I'd assume he would be experiencing issues with starting the truck.

Nope. Shifting into 4Lo you have to go all the way to the floor, like, harder than than you think you should have to.

It shouldn't be any further to the floor than you need to start the engine. It is sensing the clutch limit switch, which can be adjusted.

Fwiw AT is the same way. I swap back n forth until the movement from the actuator aligns everything and off I go

One would think so, but that's the only logical solution I can think of here since he's having issues going into 4lo. I'm curious what OP reports back after trying it.

I don't know what to tell you. On my 2015, and many other Tacos I've driven, you must push way harder to go into 4 Lo than to get the truck to start.

Interesting. I've never looked at the switch. Previous vehicles I've owned have been simply on/off switches.
