4x4 does not work, the transfer case has the whining noise, so it sounds like its working!
Front tires wont spin, but the drive shaft is spinning

4x4 Light dont come on casue my gauge cluster isnt working!!

    Any ideas on the 4wd?

4WD quit on my 2001 Tacoma.
No dash light and no 4WD.

Dealership replaced the 4X4 Detact switch on the transfer case.
    $75.65 part. Labor extra.

    It may be the problem.
I understand there is another motor that can go out but that one is in the $400 range.
    Hope the fix is cheap.

If your dash light doesn't come on & your tires aren't spinning/turning. Your front differential actuator is not working. I have the same problem, ordered the part at the stealership today for about $340.

Also, here is the test they do on the front diff to isolate the problem.
