4WD Question / Concern After Driven at Interstate Speeds

I have a 2012 5 spd. 2.7 and on Saturday a co-worker needed to borrow my truck. I gave her the keys and off she went.

When I got back into my truck after she returned it I realized I'd left it in 4wd. She'd been all over town (paved roads) and on the interstate (up to at least 65 mph) in 4wd.

I've driven the truck since and haven't immediately noticed any problems. I've shifted into and out of 4wd on paved roads up to 40 mph and seems OK. But I haven't actually used the 4wd offroad.

How much trouble am I in after an incident like this? Should I get inspected by a mechanic to make sure nothing is destroyed?

Are there any specific things I should watch out for as a sign of problems?

Change your transfer case oil and see if any metal shavings come out.

 

You may have to cut your losses and trade straight across on a VW Beetle, the truck is essentially worthless now.

 

I'm no mechanic. Can I have this done somewhere with the express concern of looking for shavings in the oil?

 

Yeah any mechanic could do it for you. But I assure you it's a very easy and quick thing to do yourself.

Interstate speeds in 4wd is fine. The issue about driving 4wd on dry pavement is making sharp turns which cause the driveline to bind, and sharp turns are not done on the interstate. It is the in town driving that is concerning. Likely there was just some wheel hop in tight corners. The Tcase should be stronger than the CV joints. If everything runs and drives well, your fine. You just put extra stress on the driveline.
