    Hey alove0750,

The trucks off road capabilities are no doubt awesome.
How has it been on the road, especially if you have to hit 20 miles of gravel washboard before your trailhead?
How does it handle going fast on a loose surface?
    just curious

On road it does amazing, I am very pleased with it. On the gravel backroads it did good. I want to try swapping the coils to see if I could fine tune the suspension. When I did the swap I was mainly going off of some of the other setup I read online.

    Negative ghost rider lol

I've had good luck with my 3.4 so far. About the only left on my to-do list would be rock lights, CB, chromo all the way around and possible 4.88's w/ high pinion front :spy:

Ordered some Amsoil ATF today. I'm going to try to get the cooler installed this weekend. I'm going to have it flushed and swapped over sometime soon.

I also got around to mocking up the trans temp gauge plumbing today at work. I'm probably going to order an Auto Meter gauge and try to install it in my center console, just in front of my shifter (if possible)

This is a good mod to have!

How were you planning to use the temp sensor? I recommend just using some brass plumbing and making your own T for it to go in the trans fluid line.. thats what I did.

I run the trans cooler in series with the radiator and my temps are always at or below 160. Even in moab..

That exactly how I was wanting to set mine up. I haven't seen it done, before now, and after seeing yours I really like that setup!

Yeah, I'm doing brass on the T.

What do you mean by in series with the radiator? Do you have any more pics of your setup?

I'm really glad to hear your having good luck with keeping it cooler. I was worried that it wouldn't even be worth the trouble.

This is how the lines are run in my setup.

Hot from trans > in-line temp sensor for the gauge > radiator built in trans cooler > External trans cooler mounted in front of radiator > in line filter > Back to trans.

The external cooler I use is the B&M 70268, many other 4runner owners use the slightly larger 70264. But, if you are running with the radiator in series, its overkill. Most 4runner guys bypass the radiator trans cooler all together and just go with the external one due to problems with the 4runner radiators..

I have the fluid going to the external cooler 2nd becuase it is the one that receives the coolest air as it is in the front. so the fluid receives the majority of the cooling effects after it has already been cooled somewhat by the built in radiator part.

The in-line filter I used was a magnefine, I dont remember the part number, but I think they are universal as its just an in-line thing.

With the temps. I also am running a new radiator and a stant 170* thermostat as opposed to the stock 180* thermostat. The radiator is just a stock replacement, nothing fancy. the cooler thermostat is recommended for Supercharged rigs only. But, if you need help with engine temps in addition to trans temps, its worth a shot. My engine temps are now usually at 185* per my scangauge.

The B&M mounts using a set of 4 zip-ties that go through the radiator and the condenser..

Thanks for clearing that up for me and also thank you for the write up. It's good to have input and instructions from someone who's actually done it and not someone who "heard from one of his buddies"

I'm ready to knock this project out now :D

Still trying to find the time to hook up the transmission cooler/gauge.

I did a little 2,000 mile check up on the solid axle and everything is good, tight and greased. I've done everything from around town, interstate to wheeling it and I couldn't be more pleased.
