It isn't too bad, just tire placement. I just hate that damn tree, I always feel like I'm about to rip my roof off...

Coming along nicely. Personally I would have gone with the 4" stretch, but I understand your concerns with it. I think you'll be just fine with the 1" stretch. Gonna be a great setup.

Thanks bud, that means a lot coming from someone with a setup like yours. Definitely one of my favorites on here

More stability, less 'tippy' I would assume. Also, father forward it is, easier it would be to mount larger tires. Better approach angles too.

If you're going to the extreme and putting a solid axle then every little gain in clearance, approach or departure angle helps. That extra couple inches is the difference between the tires hitting first or the bumper hitting first when approaching a rock ledge.

Any clearance issues with the bumper are a helluva lot easier to deal with then the fender/firewall/door/whatever area.

Yeah, that's why he ultimately went with the +1" rather than 4", it would be a PITA to rework the entire front end but the approach angle is why you would do it. If it's a rock crawler, I'd imagine you get out the sawzall and go to down on the bodywork because those extra inches would be important.

It's easier to make clearance on the front of the fender/bumper then it is to make clearance on the firewall;)

Here's a good example of why you'd want to move the axle forward

    Truck2-17-08004_d8a7800c6676ba64ca097a9cccdccb0487fda720.jpg

Sitting on 40"s with minimal modification to the firewall area.

I'm with ya, you asked why go the extra 4 inches of stretch though. All comes down to function, if you need it. A solid axle rig like this will be very capable regardless, it's just a question of, do you really need that extra stretch for the type of wheeling the truck will see.

I can't wait to see this thing when it's done! Looks like it's coming along nicely

I guess it's just (IMO) better to move it forward the first time, even in alove0750's case because if you ever do decide to go with larger tires, make it a rock crawler, etc. you have that option rather than moving the axle again at a later point. :notsure:

I went with the 1 inch stretch because 1) I don't plan on doing anything crazy with it, just a weekend warrior kind of deal. 2) I'm not a fan of the huge tires (but don't plan on doing any crazy wheeling) just because it's more stress on joints, axles, etc... 35's would be the largest I would go. 3) I really don't want to have to cut my fender and re-work the front bumper.

On another note... I'm going to get my MTR Kevlars tomorrow after work :yay:

Jerretxx is getting my Duratracs that I have now... also big thanks to him for letting me drive his truck to school this week!

Where are you getting the Kevlars from? I called Discount Tire and they said they were back ordered.
