Nice what would the setup be for this? Will these work with the drop spindles? I’m set on the current plan but still open to suggestions.

    • Belltech coils $216
    • Drop spindles $450
    • 4” blocks $50-100
    • Front+rear shocks $200-300
    • Wheels+tires $1750
    $2816 Total-ish

These are my arms that I modified to run qa1 coilovers. I run them alongside the drop spindles from Aaron too.

This is a tricky question, 2" would likely have zero issues while 4" you might think of removing your inner fenders and relocating your battery.. and of course results will vary anywhere in between!

Can we expect a tire melting donut video so you can finish those 16's off in style and get that new meaty rubber?!

@mjbtaco Please remind me, why do coilovers require welding the control arms again? Cant we simply adapt the lower shock mounts another way?

Once those arms are welded, can you bolt the stock shock into place anymore?

Not a huge fan of modifying stock parts to work only with aftermarket stuff.. Ive ran QA1's on a muscle car that only lasted about 4 years until needing replacement..

Figure out how we mount these without modifying my truck for old Camaro parts and I just may end up with coilovers (another brand of course)!

Modifying the arms is required because the stock spring sits on a spring cup on the the arm. That needs to be removed and the plate braces the arm since the arm material is thin and will now be supporting the entire weight of the truck.

The solution is very simple. Modify a second set of arms if you plan on returning it back to stock. Alot of people send me arms to Modify. For one there's no down time other when installing, and they can always revert back to stock if they want to.

The example I posted are my personal set of arms that I modified to accept poly bushings instead of the horrible stock bushings.

I've had my QA1 coilovers for almost 15 years and they're still solid. Most go with QA1 but Viking is also a popular option. I worked with one of their reps to put together a parts list of their products that would work. Tried working with some other companies but they weren't quite as helpful.

Thanks for the info, this makes sense needing to beef up the mount more so than simply attaching a shock. Wasn't bashing QA1 just my experience, I am admittedly quite rough with my machines and drive them hard! Plenty of guys have great results with them, I was more so thinking about the oem mounting aspects vs the brand..

I do have plans for a supercharger and other things for the future (when I am done with other projects), so the coil overs may indeed come into play for old Trudy one of these days!

Would Viking let you order up some springs in the 400-450 pound rate range or close?

Viking gave me part numbers for 500 and 600lb springs.

    Screenshot_20240330_133955_Instagram.jpg

Qa1 alo seems to skip over the 400lb range springs. Not sure if they're not popular in this size.

Hey do you do the poly bushing setup with the plated arms or just the plates?

Thanks for this info, I am running 368 lbs on my regular cab 4 cylinder and would suggest the QA1 375 lb spring as a good option for others as it is roughly 25% stiffer than stock. Still very streetable ride wise but much improved handling. 500 may be a bit too much spring for my liking, I need to be able to sip coffee with one hand going down the freeway still too!

These are kind of a hybrid half mounted coilovers too, so they do not accept normal coils from other manufacturers do they or is this just the photo?

The current setup till I burn through these set or tires. Just got an alignment this morning. The project took me a couple Saturdays but I got it done. After having to replace a roof and some other things due to a recent storm, I ended up going w/ the following:
    • BellTech 4260 Coils
    • DJM 3” Steel Drop Block kit
    • OEM Front & rear shocks
    Drop came out to 1.25-1.5” / 3”

Finally got the truck together enough to take a trip up to my local mountains. It did awesome with the wheels and tires off of my old daily that I got rid of last year. It looks ugly at the moment but it handles great.

I don't think it looks ugly, but isn't it a bit too low for the mountains?

Great stance. Clean setup you have. What offset did you go with on your wheels?

Thank you, I need to find a pair of wheels to test to insure they will clear the bbk setup.
