IRVINE Several people were sent to the hospital with serious burns after a van caught fire Sunday morning on I-5 in Irvine, fire officials said.
The driver leaped out of the vehicle uninjured but two other adults and two children, ages 6 and 3, received a combination of first-, second- and third-degree burns as they got out, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Greg McKeown said. They were taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Their names and hometowns were not available.
Preliminary investigation showed that there was a malfunction with the vehicle, possibly with the rear tire
