    I have a 2002 Tacoma with a 5sp manual 4x4

Im planning on changing the Transmission oil this weekend to Redline M90 to hopefully improve my shifter going into 3rd gear. It goes in and the gear holds fine, it just doesnt feel as solid going in as the other gears. Im going to try this first before digging into the trans

    Anyway my question is:
Does anyone have some pics or a service diagram showing the location of the manual trans and transfer case drain & fill plugs. I know they are all 24MM from a post I read here but Id like to identify them before I start loosening bolts.

I know how to change the oil, I just want to make sure Im wrenching on the correct plugs

    Thanks
    Frank T

I don't have a pic but the fill plug is the one that's higher up than the drain plug. On mine (I believe we have the same setup, only mine's a 2004) the fill plug is on the driver's side and the drain plug is lower and on the passenger side of the transmission.

Also, be sure you loosen the fill plug BEFORE you remove the drain plug and drain the trans and t-case. You don't want to drain them only to find out that you can't get the fill plug off to re-fill them.

Finished the Trans and transfer case oil change yesterday... here are some details, sorry if some of this info is a repeat of above info...

Transmission Fill plug is 24mm and is located on the driver side of the trans about 1/2 way up the trans. It was more forward toward the motor than the drain plug. The drain plug is on the bottom of the trans near the transfer case. I used a 24mm socket to remove both. There was enough room to use a tall quart bottle of 90wt gear oil (all gear oil used to come in this type bottle) with a cone-shaped cut away screw-on tip, so thats what I used to fill it. the Redline MT90 bottle tip was oddly sized and would not fit in the fill hole so I poured it into the tall quart bottle I had, then squeezed the bottle to get as much fluid out as I could. there was normally about 1/4 left in the bottle after squeezing it but I had more oil than I needed (bought 4qts for the job). My Transmission was filled at about 2.75 quarts of fluid.

The transfer case also had 24mm plugs. Both fill and drain plugs were on the back face of the case pointing toward the rear of the truck. I again filled the tall 90wt bottle and squeezed the bottle to fill it. My transfer case took 1 quart.

A pretty simple job any beginner should be able to do.
Ill be taking on the differentials in a few weeks.

    Thanks again for everyone's help
    Frank T
