I have one. Also have an iPad. Both came as gifts. In regards to the Fire, I find my iPhone to be more useful for browsing the Internet. The browser on the Fire isn't the greatest and it is fairly slow. That being said if you use it to read or other things designed by Amazon it works great, although I have a regular Kindle for reading.

For strict surfing the Internet it gets the job done, but there is a reason it's so cheap. Just don't expect apple or android level performance and you won't be disappointed.

If you are getting it to read it is worth the extra money for a Kindle Paperwhite. Much lighter and much much less strain on your eyes.
