My 2014 Prerunner 2WD 2.7L 4CLY DCSB is just shy of 35K miles. I feel that it should be preforming better off-road over dirt roads then it does (lots of shaking). I am pretty sure my ’99 2WD Ford Ranger actually performed better in the dirt.

How helpful would it be to replace struts and shocks with Bilstein 5100’s? From what I’ve read (for better ride quality) it would be best to reuse OEM coils and leave the front set at .00.

I was hoping to hear from Prerunner 2WD 2.7L 4CLY DCSB owners who have done this. If you could share your experience that would be great.

No experience with a pre-runner but I feel as if the 5100’s improved my ride no doubt.

The stock shocks are valved for highway use. If you drive a lot of washboard and potholed dirt roads (like I do), the oil in the stock shocks foams and they become temporarily worthless. This does not happen to the 5100s. I rally over miles and miles of rough road regularly and the 5100s perform great - for a low price shock.

I just installed the 5100s on the front and set them at 1.75”. It rides much better than stock and eliminated the nose dive when braking.
