5100s adjustment?

    So my 5100s came in and I have no idea how to adjust the height. I am at work so I can't look it up so I was hoping one of you guys would chime in. Thanks.

    Just use a small screwdriver to get the c-clip out of the groove then just slide it up or down to where you want it and make sure it seats all the way into the groove you want. The groove closest to the eye is 0", the next one up is 0.85", the next is 1.75", and the highest one that is closest to the piston is 2.5"

    Yep, whenever you mess with the steering or suspension, you need an alignment.

    Yes.

    A spring only compresses so much. When you set the 5100's at anything above 0", you've compressed the coil part of the way before you even set the weight of the vehicle on it. You've lost distance it can compress so it runs out of travel sooner. It also rides harsher. 5100's are good shocks though. Some say it's not too bad.

    My 5100s only had three positions. Approx. 0",1", and 2.5".


    Out of the box it came set for 2.5"

    Yes the 1st Gen only has 3 settings. And true...anything pass 0" will compress the coils lifting the suspension. Alignment is a must and if you set it at 2.5" and can't get alignment back to specs, you may need aftermarket UCA's.

    this is more so an issue for 2nd gen's, I have not heard of anyone having trouble getting a 1st gen to align.

    the only thing to consider is your using a better shock, with more oil in it, so the shock itself will perform better, and perform for longer before heating up.

    FWIW I really like the ride of my 5100's at 2.5''

    Yeah, that's what I was alluding to with my last two sentences above.

    Due to improved shock quality, a 5100 at 2.5" may ride better than a stock set up.

    A 5100 at 0" will ride better than a 5100 at 2.5" though, supporting my original point.

    Amsoil Synthetic ASL 5w30 Oil, Amsoil ATL Fuel Efficient ATF, Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90 in front/rear diffs & transfer case.
    How is the ride quality of the Bilsteins set at 0.85" ? compared to say stock? It's probably not too bad? Any other issues with this setting or just set it up and get the alignment and you're good to go?

    Mine were at 0" then I raised them to 0.85". I couldn't tell the difference because it was such a small change. Had I jumped two or three levels, I probably would have noticed. I also have aftermarket coils though. It's hard to say how it will compare to stock because there are different stock suspensions from the factory. Not to mention the various states of wear within them. Pretty much at any level you choose, install them, get an alignment, and enjoy. If you go to 2.5" (or higher from a another type of lift), it is recommended but not necessary to get aftermarket upper control arms.

    does anyone have it set at 2.5 with 265 75 r16 tires? could some one give me a measurement from top of tire to bottom of wheel well please.

    if you don't have a trd, then you'll love the ride, going from whatever the stock shocks are, to a bigger better bilstein will be lovely!

    6 3/4'' in the front, and 7'' in the back, that's with a sleeping platform and shell.
