Purchase 5/8 Cam locks from ACE Hardware. Get two which get opened by the same key. Unscrew current not so secure lock. Cut little black Tab in the back, bore the hole little bit, install cam lock. The lock plate has to be bent slightly, which is very easy to do with same pliers...

The best part about this mod is that it will deter thieves to some extent and cost about $8/per lock...

    Hey Tony,
    Looks great!!
One thing about drilling holes I have found out over many years and drill bits. Slow speed and lots of pressure works much better than spinning the crap out of them.
If they are not removing metal shavings or if you can't see anything happening slow down and add more pressure. Higher speed just burns up the bits.
Keep up the good work and good luck with the knee work.

Ya I found that out the hard way...lol Burned two bits in the process. Putting some oil on the tip helps too. Protects the bit from getting too hot by reducing friction.

I had the knee surgery last Friday. On Monday i was walking without crutches and driving my truck... It is still sore but manageable...

My latest mod is a sun visor from 05+ TRD Sport Tacoma. I got it from a member on ttora.com for $27 shipped, i don't think that was a bad deal... The visor is exactly the same size as the visor on my 08 base taco. I have taken pictures of the visors side-by-side...

The side you will see when visor is closed. The major difference is that the Sport visor has the extend-able part to cover the spot which base visor wont cover. With aggressive sun here in AZ that's exactly why I got this visor. The next difference is the clear pocket for business card or other stuff...

    CIMG3637_7469f71121ecff7095e7cf814c591c22df4d4512.jpg

Now for the side you see when the visor is open. The only difference is that the sport visor has a mirror which can be closed or opened with a sliding door.

    CIMG3636_1ca4b5e4a1df6b93c7e97241e405dbd99cf98a2a.jpg

Sport visor installed! Install was super easy... Two Philips screws. Visor in closed position.

    CIMG3639_8d8e47f3a6d89275d45844ce3c392d3312119920.jpg

Visor opened with extra part extended.

    CIMG3641_bc86a52d7a752eef802dbf25afe736e14753e763.jpg

Mod was well worth it! Much better visor for hardly any cost and fitment is OEM perfect!

nice my friend. Welcome to the 5 lug Militia!

I am amazed you fit 10.5" wide tires on the stock rims.... I was told this was not possible...

how do the tires handle with the super tiny rims?

also that piece you removed that keeps the intake quiet... how do i remove it?

    thanks man. sweet whip

Stock is 6" wide rim. You CAN fit 10.5 wide rims, however it is not recommended by most tire places, you just have to find the place which will do it. Only bad thing is that the inside thread can wear faster because the tire is arched due to being on such small rim. The handling is not great because the stock rims have too much backspacing making the truck narrow unlike neslerah's 5lug on aftermarket wheels and 33's.

To remove the intake resonator you pull back the fender well from the front, undo one 10mm bolt and pry it out. Took me about 10min, the clips are a bitch.

What's your mpg like, how many miles have you clocked with those tires and what does removing that piece actually do?

I got the Variable speed wiper switch on line for $60 with $20 for shipping from Pam's auto. I love it cuz it also activates the wipers when you pull on the stalk for the washers. Really nice job on your truck. Curious though...how far off is your speedo with the new tires?

$80 for the variable switch is NOT bad...

My speedo is about 9mph off at 65mph. Well I just drive the speed limit, since no one pulls you over if you do 9 over...

    More mods!!!

OEM 6CD changer. I kept the black faceplate and put in the grey 6cd buttons, looks pretty good :D

BHLM Dustin (TightShirt) did for me on the AZ mod day. I didn't want to attempt this myself. Its tedious and time consuming. I knew I would fuck something up... Looks really bad ass!

    CIMG3647_bb3222deb775133de649c34cdf22dab460e86d61.jpg

    CIMG3648_fdaaa5ffb3c61d9a73e8277705491cd405b93dc8.jpg

    Next on the list is;

    - paint the two tone grill the same color Dustin used for the BHLM (gloss black)

    - install OEM power inverter I already have in my storage

    - Powertrax or Spartan locker along with transmission fluid and rear diff fluid change

So it's 15% off which means when you figure your MPG, add 15% to your Odo reading and you'll get an accurate MPG reading. I also like the 6 cd swap. I haven't found a newer radio for a Taco with the 6 CD changer. Where'd you find it and how much?
