I have an odd situation with the transmission on my Tacoma. First, it's a 2.7, 5-speed, 4x4. Here's the symptom. When driving in 2 wheel drive, the transmission is extremely notchy going into 1st and 2nd, even sometimes giving a slight grind going into 2nd (I realize these transmissions are notoriously notchy). Here's the odd part, if I shift into 4 High, the transmission shifts smooth as butter - no notchiness, no grinding, etc. Strange, eh? I have changed the fluids in the transmission and transfer case. The truck has about 60K miles on it. Anyone ever heard of this? Thoughts? Thanks.
