Still unsure if I should upgrade to a Fabtech 6” lift on my 2002. Anyone who has one, please advise as far as off-road/street/turning radius performance. Thanks

Most guys on here don’t recommend drop bracket lifts and suggest 2-5” coilover lift paired with 3 leaf add a leaf or bigger leaf pack. Benefits of the second choice are lower center of gravity, better off-road performance, and no mods required on the frame which are not easy to go back from.

Why were you considering lifting your truck?

Despite what the manufacturer says, a 6” lift, even the fabtech is not really an upgrade. For all that money, they still throw blocks in the back to lift it, and the shocks they give you are no better than a basic rancho.

I would take that $3k+ you’d spend on that fabteck, and get yourself some Kings and J59s. It will run circles around that fabteck. No block lifts necessary.

33s, and the pinch weld mod.

    Done.

As @Dalandser said, it’s really better to stay under 3” lift. Lower center of gravity and no frame modification.

If you’re really jonesing for that look, so be it, but if you are after offroad performance, a 6” lift is NOT the ticket.

For looks and big tires the 6" is the way to go. But when it comes to durability, driveability and performance they really fall short.

You can offroad 6" lifts no problem, but hammering them at speed isn't as ideal.

Ok, thanks guys. I currently have a Tuff Country 5”. I’ve had it for years and it handled pretty well over the years. Mostly over trails through lava fields here on the Big Island of Hawaii. Feels good to me on road.

I just wanted to go a little higher because we have a new black sand beach here that formed after our recent lava flow, and you have to drive over part of that flow (no trail) to get to the beach. I’ve heard guys say you need a lot of clearance.

For better clearance, get low profile bumpers. For protection get skids and rock sliders.

Another inch isn't going to make or break getting through a trail.

Also, the higher your lift, the higher your center of gravity, which isn't a good thing.

May already be a drop bracket on there if it’s a 5”. My individual opinion is that these trucks are too small to go up that high. I bought mine like that and I never could get over how unnatural it felt climbing way up into the tiny cab. These are better with the frame intact and with better quality components fit in. Personal opinion <—-
