I got a 4 cylinder that has bad mpg and is really under powered. Thinking about a 6 cylinder but concerned about mpg. What does everyone think?

I get about 17-19.5 mpgs. That's with 265/75-16 duratracs. DCLB automatic 4x4 sport. The 6 speed manual that I had with the same tires only got about 16-17.5 mpgs. That was an access cab 4x4 off road. Auto definitely if you're concerned about mpgs.

Toyota cheating the EPA mileage again. It should have said something like 18/22 mpg for a DCSB 4cyl, not 19/24. It's got the same stance and 4.10 rear end as the 4x4 and that version in the access cab is rated 18/21 mpg.

How many miles does that 2014 have? It's not uncommon for mileage to rise little by little over the first 10-15k miles.

I'd say it's probably a safe bet that if you take whatever mileage you get now, subtract about 2 mpg and you'd have a decent guess for a V6 in your driving conditions. But, it would be faster.

2014 DCSB V6 auto 4x4 and I get 17.5 mpg driving it like I stole it on my 90 mile commute (round trip) through Houston traffic.

Ok....ive read a bunch of these mileage threads now and Im a bit concerned. Now im in Canada so we use Litres per 100 km but I convert (using my mileage tracker app) to mpg. Im averaging 7-9 mpg. I should point out its a new truck with about 5500k or 3500 miles on it and totoaly stock. Is this normal?????

You are either not computing properly, or something is majorly seriously wrong with your truck, assuming you are not leaving it idling on cold nights.

Before conversion, how many litres do you usually purchase, and how many kilometers are you going?

    Fill tank.
    Reset trip odometer.
    Drive a bunch.
Fill the tank, write down the number of litres.
Write down the number on the odometer and reset it again.

Multiply litres by 0.264 to get gallons.
Multiply kilometers by 0.62 to get miles.

Divide miles by gallons to get MPG.

You have to completely fill the tank both times, but you only care about the numbers the 2nd time.

Check my fuelly sig for mileage. I have it in both litres/100km and mpg. Sound like you have either an error in your math or a hole in your gas tank.

Note, mine is with a 6spd manual in a 4x4 DCSB = worst trim for mileage.

I never noticed that.... always wondered why your numbers were so low.

I keep it like that to confuse everyone. They probably think my mileage is crap and no one decides to tell me. :)

Ok so I have been recording mine in L/100km and just switched the settings to mpg on the app. I have been averaging 13.42 L/100km. It looks like im not far off of yours. Im goimg to do the math (rather than let the app do it) from now on.

Edit: did the math myself and got 17.2mpg. Ok I feel better now...lol

    Thanks guys.

Wow, thanks for all the input. By bad mpg I mean not as bad (good) as your picture but way off of the sticker rating of 19/24. I have driven 3,500 miles in the first two weeks all highway. First tank really scared me at under 17 mpg. Best was one tank at 22 but average is under 20.

Seems like I could pay a little more and get within 1 or 2 mpg and have a 6 cylinder that could actually pass someone on the highway. The first time I tried to pass at 60 with the 4 banger I was amazed at how little power it had. Does a little better now that I know I have to stick my foot in it.

I was told by the dealership there is less than 200 pounds between the Rav4 and Tacoma. Rav4 smaller engine but 40 to 50 percent more power in my mind. Bottom line I loved the Rav4 but am VERY VERY unhappy with Tacoma.

Did you drive it before you bought it?
