So your point was to come into a thread, troll folks over how you get away with breaking traffic laws and then give advise there within? After a drunk killed a few folks...

    I'm not the mobbing type.
But I think maybe what happened was, you chose the wrong thread to poorly word what you mean. If some have had loved ones killed innocently from drunks, sure they could get heated when someone says what you did. If you re-read what you said again, maybe you can see how it comes off, while keeping in mind the subject of the thread. You brought it on yourself.

I've never hired a lawyer. As for the right things to say: pulled over for cell phone use-no sir, I was listening to my memo reminding me what to get at the store. Perfectly legal. I have tried using a hands-free device and found it distracting so I don't deem it safe for me to use. Holding the phone to my head is not distracting, maybe because I'm so accustomed to it. I might become accustomed to the hands-free if I gave it time, but I refuse to be put in that situation of being distracted just to comply with a law. It's also been shown that the texting law has lead to increased accidents because people now hide the phone down low so as to not be seen where before it would be up on the steering wheel where they at least had the possibility of using peripheral vision. Granted, many people can't even walk through a store effectively while on the phone, let alone drive. Those people shouldn't talk and drive, but continue to do so. There were already laws in place that can be applied to the distracted driver but weren't enforced.

To my recollection you didn't mob, you asked questions about my seemingly contradictory statements and I applaud that. I do believe that you saw past the emotion and have been able to comprehend my words. As much as some will justify attacking me because they are emotionally driven to, there's no justification; they're just part of the ignorant mob.

My main point is that laws without proper enforcement are mostly useless. When they add more laws or make existing laws more stringent many people are more inclined to break them and have less respect for the law makers and law enforcement officers.

As for the ones questioning my having cop friends, yes; from locals to DEA. None of them are the types that abuse their power, they are the "protect and serve" type as they are supposed to be and not the "cite and arrest" type many have become. They aren't the ones you'll read about that beat their wives, drink and drive, do drugs, abuse the innocent, etc. They are good people with a job that treat others as they'd like to be treated, just like any of my other friends. The badge and gun mean nothing....except that I'm safer when in their presence.

Wow, Forgive me oh Mod Gods here.

First off I think we have a banable offense since I believe one of the rules is no talking about breaking traffic laws....but then again, that is for the mods to decide.

First statement in bold: Someone sitting at home alone smoking weed is nowhere NEAR the same as someone driving drunk. I am not sitting in his house while he is smoking, however me and my family ARE on the roads where a drunk driver IS driving. You can't even THINK that you have a logical comparison there. Apples/Oranges.

Second statement in bold: Total utter BULLSHIT there sir. Study some science and biology. Just because you can pass a field sobriety test does NOT mean that your motor functions are not impaired.

You endanger others every time you speed, or drink, while others are on the road with you.

You sir, are an illogical FOOL. I GUARANTEE that I have been driving for longer than you and even I know that a single drink can impair a person's reaction time, and judgment. You haven't been accident free because you are a skilled driver. You have been accident free because you have been LUCKY. I certainly hope you do not ever have to face the death of a loved one because someone like YOU thought they were skilled enough to drive after a few beers. I am sure you will be singing a different tune if YOUR daughter was killed. Heaven forbid if YOU are the one who does it. The only reason I DON'T wish something like this on you is not because of you, but because of the family member that would have to DIE before you opened your eyes! I have lost too many friends to fools like you.

so sad! and stupid! they need to make the penalties hard for these people and not let them off with 2 or 3+ reckless driving charges before charged with DUI.

in TN you can get DUI by consent. say me and kona (just using you as an example man) went out drinking and and had my truck. I was to truck to drive so i ask him if he is ok to drive and says yes. We get pulled over and he gets a DUI well since it’s my truck i get a DUI by consent as well. It’s a little bit less of a charge than what the driver would get.

Very sad, the drunk driver just had a baby three months ago. Killed her sister in the incident. Last Sunday a 18 year girl drunk driver killed a 21 year old kid on a road bike, it was a hit and run.

Sadly - No matter how old or great a safe driver you might think you are - It has been scientifically proven that even a single drink causes some level of impairment, and talking on a cell phone is not a problem because of holding the phone or not - it's a problem of engaging higher functions of your mind to talk instead of pay attention to the road.

These are not myths or anecdotes - Study after study has made it pretty clear. You can puff yourself up all your about how you have LEO friends and a great driving record...That won't matter at all that one time that something you don't expect happens and you end up dead or killing someone else.

Your machismo attitude is a recognized barrier to effective communication and it endangers the safety of those around you.

Yes, the drunks need to be nailed hard and fast so they don't keep doing it, especially when they cause an accident. The consent thing kinda sucks tho, that's likely to defeat the intent of keeping people safe. How are you, being way drunk, supposed to positively ascertain that kona is maybe a little drunk? Sometimes we can tell, sometimes not. Tho everyone should try to be aware and intervene, the final responsibility should lie on the person driving. One trying to do the right thing and getting busted for it might make other people not try. It's kinda like people who decide to sleep it off in the bar parking lot then get charged with intent to DUI because they were in the car and had access to the keys. Blaming bars and servers or anyone else just serves to show people that they don't need to be responsible for their own actions, that's a load of horseshit and the individual needs to own it and pay for it.

On a funny note-last weekend we went out drinking and I had no desire to be sober so I ordered up a cab for the group so as to not deal with anyone thinking they could drive home; I have a buddy notorious for being "ok to drive". My buddies face got smacked by the cab door as another drunk bumped it while he was stepping in and he bled all over the place. It was kinda funny that we chose the safe route and this guy got fucked up after pulling off drunken driving for 30 years. Regardless, the $120 fare and a little wound still beats the worse possibilities.

Exactly why I like college. I can walk wherever I need to go.

I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a call at 1am from my friends in the car club to come pick them up. Of course the car enthusiasts don't drink and drive :D

I hate drunk drivers, and people who brag about it.
