Let’s be realistic here. They won’t offer him a new truck and total it out cause of this. Worst case scenario it’s a new engine. As for the trans. There’s generally a lot of fluid between the pan, the transmission, torque converter and trans cooler that a few quarts low isn’t going to cause an issue for a few miles.

I'm no expert...but if they had drained the transmission fluid instead of the oil, wouldn't they realize that just from the color of it coming out and catch their mistake?

Guys on here have done it before and lived to tell the tale. To my knowledge, they didn’t suffer any adverse engine issues

I got screwed by Jiffy Lube years ago. They overfilled it (another car, not my Taco) and I ended up with a leaking rear seal. Luckily, it did no damage. It fixed itself once I fixed the problem. The Caddy 472's were hard to kill. Another time I got the wrong filter and didn't look at it when I changed my oil. A parts store girl gave me the wrong filter. I ended up with a 3 foot puddle of oil under the car but it did no damage since I had just started it up after the oil change. The Caddy 472 was hard to kill. It had 1 qt in it when I shut it off. Since then I always check the part numbers and the filter when I do an oil change. No one touches my drain plugs except me.

I've been doing my own oil changes for over 40 years. The "only" reason I used Jiffy lube that time was because I was going on a trip and was in a hurry.:frusty: I haven't let anyone touch a drain-plug since. Not that I ever did before. I've actually changed my oil on a dirt road once since then. A dealer isn't any better these days unless you're lucky to have a "known" good one where you live and they do exist.

    Finding one is the problem.

No engine damage will be present.

This is exactly what they did and didn't pull the dipstick to check level afterwards.

Not true. First gear would slip.

    Yep ^^ this right here.

They didn't check the dipstick is what happened. Probably a rookie oil change at the dealer.

Hey OP... they are going to drain your oil all back out, correct the level, fill the tranny up to proper level as well, and then they'll run the engine until all the excessive oil is cleared from the combustion chamber, and release it back to you. All will be well.

I don't think the truck would move very well if they drained the trans completely. Man I hate to hear these horror stories.

You're giving the oil change "techs" at the dealership far too much credit I'm afraid

Free oil changes is a nice sounding perk and all but I still wouldn't take advantage of it personally. Changing the oil on these trucks is still a simple DIY task and a small price to pay for the peace of mind that it was done right.

Make them check the transmission fluid. You can't.

I wouldn’t trust them to check the trans fluid if they were too stupid to drain and fill oil correctly.

These kind of posts crack me up.
There will be no new truck. Nor will there be a new engine, or transmission.
Like it or not, the fluids will get sorted, codes cleared, and the OP will get his truck back.
