Just bought a 6 inch suspension lift for my taco, is this a good lift for mudding and wheeling?

agreed. if wheeling was a priority i personally would of stuck with a 3" suspension lift over a 6" bracket lift.

For the love of drop brackets! Do not buy a rough country  There has been too many members with issues already. Buy cheap, get cheap.

A properly setup drop bracket can hang with a 3" just fine. Just depends on what kind of offroading you plan do. If you want to fly through a desert and play in the dunes then obliviously a 6+" lifted truck is not going to perform as well. If you plan on mud and slow crawling/trails then a good setup drop bracket can perform well. But, beware it will cost much, much more than any 3" lift unfortunately. Thus is why most will recommend a 3" and the ease of install.

I can't "off road" with my DB lift. Barely any "clearance"

Actually no? Your putting less stress on the cv angles, tie rod angles, and still having usable down travel and up travel. You dont necessarily "loose" clearance at the drop bracket. You just dont gain as much as a 3". Where most people forget also is you gain an incredible amount of frame, front and rear bumper clearance. Not trying to bash your opinion. There is just more to a properly setup drop bracket then most people know.

The funny things is that those 6" drop bracket lifts cost about as much as an Icon Stage III.

You have less clearance with your 6" DB lift than someone with a 3" suspension lift.

I'm just not trying to mis inform the OP. There is pro's and con's to 3" and 6" lifts. I do understand I did not gain clearance at my cross member nor did I loose any clearance. I enjoy wheeling my truck much more than I did with my 3" lift personally.

I'll chime in on this one.

I do not understand how this less clearance paradigm is so pervasive around here. If we are going to talk about clearance, we need to be more specific as there are several areas:

    Under the front diff
Under the rear diff / axle
    Frame clearance

Drop bracket kits do not lift under the front diff but they do lift the frame, as such a 6" DB is going to have more frame clearance which has a huge effect on breakover angles, approach angle, and departure angle.

The standard 3" non drop brackets kits will increase clearance under the front diff and frame clearance as well but 3" is less than 6" so they do not have as much frame clearance nor do they have as good of approach, breakover, or departure angle.

The only thing that will increase clearance everywhere, including the rear axle / diff is an increase in tire size.

WRT to use a DB or not, there are tradeoffs everywhere. The drawbacks to a standard 3" non DB kit are real. Loosing down travel is a big one. Down travel is huge when you're in the rocks maybe not so much for mudding or mall crawling. Look at trophy trucks and ultra 4's ; how much down travel do they have?

What do you think happens to the roll center of a 3" lift? What about a 6" DB? Which is better?

CV life WILL BE decreased with 3" kits.

DB actually provide clearance for bigger tires wheras the 3" do not. (the top of the travel is still the same as factory unlike a DB)
ETA: Clearance anywhere and everywhere is important but I am going to say that between the wheels (under the diffs) is not the most important. Solid axles are terrible for ground clearance under the diffs and yet almost every hardcore crawler has solid axles F/R. I've never heard of anyone swapping H1 suspension in.

All that being said, for the record, I am going Old Man Emu on my rig.
