6-speed clutch dragging?

I took my new truck (DCSB OR 6-speed stick) for a trail run today on a cool forest road. Great trip, BUT

On the drive home, the transmission developed a strange issue. When I pressed the clutch in to change gears, the shifter seemed almost stuck in place. It took (guesstimating) about twenty pounds of force to move the shifter.
    • When I first noticed the problem, I had been coasting along a 45-mph road in fourth gear for engine braking. I came up behind a slower-moving truck and went for a downshift to third. That's when the gear shifter first seemed to be stuck. I've been driving stick shifts for 25+ years, and I've never had that happen, but it seemed like maybe the clutch pedal rod was not adjusted properly, causing it to stay engaged.
    • Pressing the clutch in did disengage the driveshaft from the engine, so I was able to stop and test out a couple of possibilities:
      • At a stop, I held the clutch pedal down and put the transmission in first. It did not pull against the brakes.
      • I let off the brake and it still didn't try to pull away
      • There was no drop in idle speed
    • I checked the clutch master cylinder, which was full.
    • I was not able to see the clutch slave cylinder, but I didn't see any leaks from the hydraulics inside the firewall or under the hood
    • Since I couldn't see anything wrong, and since I was still in the middle of nowhere, I kept going. I tested the shifter now and then to see if it was sticking/dragging:
      • Shifts up the pattern from a stop were fine
      • Downshifts were fine as long as I had not been in the higher gear for more than maybe a minute or so.
      • Shifts from any gear were very difficult if I had been in that gear for a while.
    • When I got down to the interstate, I found that cruising on flat land produced the same problem; after bombing along at 75-80 for about ten miles, I had a really hard time getting it out of sixth gear.
When I stopped for gas at my exit, I tried googling for a similar problem, and searched TW too, but found nothing. I sat and drank some water and ate a clif bar, and I guess the truck cooled down for a bit. I then got back in the truck after about fifteen minutes, pulled away, and the problem was gone!

I don't want to take it to the dealer since I may not be able to reproduce the issue. The truck has about 2000 miles on it. It's had no beatings, and has given me no trouble so far. I'm wondering:
    1. Has anyone else had this problem?
    2. What is the correlation between having it in gear for a while and it getting stuck in gear?
    3. Why did the problem go away after the truck rested?
    4. When is this going to come back to bite harder?

Really? For the manual? Do you happen to know where to find that? I haven't seen it anywhere.

That's the one, some 2017s also were still needing the 2016 AT update. just timing on when the issue was found and production dates.

The 2017's are just 2016's with a 7 at the end and a couple small new accessories. Sometimes it takes a while to roll out complete design changes and since it doesn't happen on all of them they may not have gotten through all of the "possible issue" transmissions before building yours. No need to overhaul all transmissions if it only occurs on a select few. I'm not justifying anything, just saying that it is possible for the problem to have carried over to your vehicle. If it happens still 2-3 years down the line.....then we can question it.

Hope it gets fixed for you though, that sure can be a scary issue.

Yeah, I get that. Just annoying to have a new car in the shop. I've bought six new cars before this one, and none has needed a warranty repair in the time I owned it.

Most MT do not have this problem. Its $10 worth of parts so dont know why they havent just changed it over. Its a detent in the shifter. might want to have them order the part before you get there because it's probably on back order. don't let them say they can't duplicate it. it takes like an hour of driving to act up

I tried on the phone when I called. The lady I spoke to said they couldn't order the part until the diagnose, and said they wouldn't consider the TSB until they check my VIN (which they have on file since I bought it there, but won't check until my appointment). I'm thinking about ordering the part and just taking it with me so that I won't have to make two trips.

Ya they are tough. I bashed them hard on Google for not doing a life threatening repair because they were not willing to drive the vehicle that long for an hour repair. they called me back and apologized and peed the part without verifying it. I was about to do the repair myself

This happened to me and they fixed it right up under the TSB at my 5k service. I haven't made it back on a trail or to the mountains, but I have done a couple trips of highway driving 2+ hours and no issues yet. Now that it's 10 degrees F out, my clutch pedal is extremely stiff though.... never have I had that problem in a MT, especially a brand new one.

I get that issue. Mine is stiff and it is very slow to retract to back when my foot is released. Also, that's only at 26 degrees Fahrenheit. Never have I had this happen, even in a 20 year old Ford ranger. Lol Toyota, what the Heck is with all these tiny issues. Not horrible, just annoying.

my 09 had a very stiff clutch when it got cold, some times when I first start it in the am, I felt like I needed to pull it up with my foot.

The only thing I'm concerned with this truck is that if all these small things like that, radio resetting, drive shaft vibration at slow down, exhaust rattle on cold start, clutch/fly wheel feeling as if it's warped, bed alignment, etc, what is going to happen when this hits 100K?
Thankfully mine isn't that bad lol.

I expect the exhaust to rattle as the mileage gets up, not sure if I have had a vehicle that didn't do that, the VW gulf was wicked bad. How long is the drive shaft under warranty? How do you "feel" the fly wheel like its warped? If your bed is not aligned then take it in for service. Electronics, well I think yota screwed up on the radio system in these, I am not a fan of mine at all, but electronics are my biggest concern with new vehicles.

Growing up, I loved tacos. Not because they looked pretty as they aged. I knew a guy who had a Toyota (early taco or before), i can't remember how many straps he used to hold the thing together, but it was a lot. Looked like shit, but the truck ran like a champ and he would laugh when some one talked about his POS. His response was, I don't do any thing but put gas in, drive it and make sure my straps are tight. He was driving it before I met him, and for at least the 5 years my dad worked with him.
