    The threading is the same but the third gen shift boot will not directly interface with the ball.

    I pulled apart the center console so I could remove the plastic clip that holds the shift boot to the stock knob.

    I then just pulled it inside out and used a zip tie to secure it to the shift stick.

    it was kinda a pain in the ass to get the zip tie right.

    Yup - a bit of a pain. But I did it the same way, and it turned out. It was a 1 bandage job on my thumb.
