Can anybody tell me who builds good reman 6-speed manual? I have a 2006 Tacoma I love the transmission I cannot keep a clutch in it. It is not the clutch it is of course the bearings I have had squealing from the throwout bearing did a new clutch Hydraulics everything complete and had the new throwout bearing go out in 2 weeks. I put in the urd stainless steel throwout bearing sleeve upgrade and it lasted about 7 months now I am having the squeal again it is definitely the throwout bearing pre-loading when it is not supposed to when I press the clutch pedal in after I come to a neutral stop the squealing will subside or lesson. Short of going to Jasper which is probably going to be my next move I don't know what to do also and taking the junk strut20180603_084311.jpg spacer lift off and putting Billy's in the front already have the lift Leaf in the back. I love this truck but if I can't fix this transmission problem I don't know what I will do.

Generally when a thread title says “help, help, help...” it means someone is in duress and needs the TW crews assistance in recovery.

    Thread title changed

Sry. Didn't mean to set off any alarms. Just at my wit's end and wallets and with my transmission.

These transmissions are not very good at all. There is a T56 conversion out there but it is expensive!
I think a new OEM is about 3-4k.

The noisy throwout bearing is an issue that has plagued manual trans Tacomas for years....most of us just learn to live with it. It's rare that a throwout bearing actually fails...they just make that annoying chirping noise.

Replacing the clutch every time the TOB starts to make noise sounds like an awfully expensive habit...

URD makes a sleeve kit for this as well. I used it and so far no more squeak.

Lucky, no fix that I'm aware of for 1st gens short of just replacing the whole clutch assembly with a beefier aftermarket kit, which I plan on doing next time around.

Do a search for the URD hydro throw out bearing. I think some people hear have had good luck with it.

I have about $1,800 into trying to save this transmission I am over it and done. I am going to drive it until something breaks on it and then I am going to get the latest model 6-speed that I can find that will bolt to my bellhousing and do the Toyota TSB kit with a new bell housing at the same time. I bought a Chevy to drive because I want this truck bad. It has the 4 liter in it and it is strong as an ox.

Like a couple of us has mentioned, look into the URD hydro bearing.
I just put my trans back in today from replacing the 5th gear synchro. I did the URD sleeve kit. I reused my clutch, only 17k on it. Greased the hell out of the bearing, release fork, and fork pivot. I bypassed my clutch acumulator. I also put in a new slave from the fj cruiser. That slave has a 13/16 diameter piston while the taco is 7/8. I swear I could push my clutch with my pinky.i only have 15 miles on it, but she is grrrreat!

It is the design of the clutch release system that allows for this to start happening. Have you looked into the TSB's that Toyota has come out for this?
Well, the first gens and the second gens are two completely different vehicles. The 4cyl second gen has the same R155 manual trans as the first gens.

As for looking into a new trans out of a newer Tacoma, if you find that the new RA62f (I think that is the new 6sp trans in the 3rd gen) works, then let me know. The gear ratios look better than the RA60.

As I'm sure most of you know could not find a T56 swap for a four-by-four 6-speed Tacoma. Also, went to urd website and the page for the hydro bearing is no longer available so I'm assuming the hydro bearing is no longer available I don't know. Back to the drawing board.
