I was at work and I was about to leave but I started my truck and it wouldn't go into reverse. I'm not sure why. It seems like the reverse gate is locked closed like it would be when your going forward and the truck doesn't want you to go into reverse. The shifter won't go left much at all past 1st.

I changed the clutch a while ago. Is i possable I didnt plug a electrical connector in all the way?

Hydraulic pressure is likely not enough to disengage the clutch.

I would try to bleed it first as a starting point. But likely need to replace the slave cylinder.

The slave cylinder is new with the clutch. It goes into all of the other gears fine but I will try bleeding it.

See if you can put it in reverse with the engine off. Sometimes helps to pop into one of the forward gears then try reverse to line up the gear set.

If it’ll go in reverse with the engine off, my guess is your clutch isn’t fully disengaging and definitely bleed it.

This is a good thing to try. In many of my jeeps I've had (I know, not tacomas) if I wanted to get into R easy, I'd go to 2nd gear first and then down to reverse.

Bleed the clutch and try it with the power off.

Clutch is bled and it won't get past the first door
Clutch is bled now and even with the engine off i can't get it past the first door. I also tried this when putting it into foreward gears/just 1st.

But it’ll shift into every other gear just fine?

    There is a possibility.

My old 94 Pickup was grouchy about reverse gear (but in its defense, twenty plus years and well North of 200,000 miles on it). Usually helped to put it in fifth, then try reverse.

Also had some occasion where a gear would start hiding unless you shifted into neutral and let the clutch out before you tried for a gear. This would spin the whole gear set, help things figure themselves out. Drive an old enough manual, you discover the lost art of double-clutching.

My guess is one of the interlocks is messed up .
Interlocks prevent accidently shifting into two gears at the same time . In this case , the transmission thinks you are in a forward gear and is preventing the transmission from shifting into reverse . A new shifter seat may help align the shifter gates but he shouldnt have an issue shifting into reverse with the truck off .
The transmission thinks its in a forward gear and the reverse lock out prevents you from shifting into reverse .
Is your truck the 4 litre ? Is it 4x4 ? is this a 5 speed transmission or the 6 speed ?

Had similar issue. Shifter seat was the culprit.

    Ya its a 2005 4 litre 4wd 6 speed
When the truck is off I still can't get it into reverse.
I'll look into a new shifter seat at the same time I look at my plastic bushing.
Is it possable that the lockout got stuck closed?
Does anyone know the toyota part numbers for that plastic bushing and shifter seat?
