My buddy, Bosch, died today and I feel terrible. I closed the pool and went inside to clean up, came outside and fell in and drown. I just don't understand how, his been around that pool year after year. I uploaded a pic I took right after I closed the pool and unfortunately the last one I have of him.

I've read about this happening all the time an never guessed I would be one. Be careful people.

He was such a pain in the ass but in the end, he got me good.

So sorry to hear, Joe. I sympathize with you and there's no shame in crying for a lost family member. My thoughts are with you and the rest of your family while you go through this.

I've been there. The guilt is the worst part. Guilt and helplessness. Sucks for us big guys as we are supposed to be able to handle anything.
It truly wasn't your fault and you need to accept what happened. Learn from it, and know you will be 1000 times more careful with the next dog. It will hurt less in time, for now just try to remember the good times.

We have a German Shepard too, he is almost a year old. Now I am terrified to let him out back alone. I stand there with him and won't let him leave my sight. He can tell something is up, he is acting weird. Keeps sniffing the pavement where I pulled the other dog out and laid down, keeps sniffing where I buried him. Just seeing him depressed kills me too. They were best buds and the Beagle was with our Shepard since the Shepard was 11 weeks old. They slept in separate crates at night but as soon as it was time to get up they were off to the races chasing each other all day.

If it makes you feel better, I'm almost 6" taller than you and 30 lbs heavier and I'm having a hard time fathoming your experience too. Sorry for your loss man.

I feel for you brother. When I had to put my Shepard down due to old age I sat on the floor with her in the vet's office when they gave her the needle. I sat and cried as she died in my arms. No shame in that. Keep your chin up.
