    Just getting started
This is for the people who have a steel bumber with winch, skids, sliders.

Did you upgrade from 650# springs to 700 and regret it? Keeping your shocks the same meaning same company. Trying to compare apples to apples. Did the ride become to stiff? Did it not perform as well off roading?

I ask this because I am in the process of researching for my own suspension. I currently have a stock 15 trd offroad. I am looking to get a steel bumber/winch, sliders and skids. I have read in a few places that the 700# springs would be too stiff and therefore not recommended. But in most cases from what I see on here people are upgrading to the 700# springs. So just trying to get some feed back.

I have a bunch of armor and a winch.

Went from icon 650s to 700s. With the 650s the truck was only getting 1.25" of lift and would bottom out when wheeling. Very soft compliant ride on the street tho. With the 700s, the truck sits at the expected 2.75" of lift with a bit firmer but comfortable ride. Off-road performance is excellent.

I have about 180 pounds up front with some 600 lbs springs. No skids or sliders...yet. I'm thinking of upgrading to 700 pounds springs cause I have the preload nearly maxed to get the lift I desire (2.5"). Anyone have an experience in a similar situation? I mostly drive the truck on road.

Is your armor Steel or aluminum? If aluminum Bumper and Skid Plate would you stay with 650's?

I have the icon extended travel coilovers which I believe come with 650lb springs. I also have an undercover winch mount and a warn m8000-s mated to it. I don't think I'm at the 200lbs recommended for the 700lb springs, but like you, I'm maxed out at 2" of thread showing on the coilovers with less than 3" of lift. I want to decrease the preload and keep the same height by swapping out the 650 for the 700, but I'm also worried that the ride will go to sh!t due to not having enough weight up front.

Aluminum front bumper and IFS skid. Winch. The 650s sagged.

I'm in the same boat, sliders and nothing else up front, but the 650# isn't cutting it. Mines a 4x4 DCLB, wonder if that matters?

I had 650# coils and kept adjusting to compensate sag. 700# is much better.

How's the ride compared to the 650s with high preloading?

A little stiffer, but still fine off road, and no problem stuffing the tire. More stable on the street too. I am happy with it.
Kinda weird side note, I recently installed King MT coilovers on my wife's 4Runner, and they came with 550 coils?!? I might go to 600# springs when i install the skids, sliders, and gobi roof rack would cure the nose dive under braking, but it didn't help much.

I have zero experience with 4Runners but a quick search shows most OEM and aftermarket spring rates are a bit lower for them. Keep in mind the spring rate by itself does not directly relate to axle weights. The control arms create a lever with the springs and the wheel being different distances from the frame mounting points. For Tacomas the ratio is about 2:1 meaning for each 1 inch of movement at the wheel the spring only compresses by 0.5 inch. If that ratio is a bit different for a 4Runner then you can end up with a lower rate spring even if the 4Runner axle weight is higher than the Tacoma.

Front end of the 4Runner is the same. Same control arms shocks and spindles.

So I ordered a Pilfreybuilt hybrid bumper the steel version, and Im about to order extended travel kings. I want to run a winch once I can afford it, will 650lb be enough or should I go to 700lb?. I want to run the coils as much lift as possible without sacrificing preformance.

I'd say splitting hairs then between the 650 and 700lb options. Kinda depends on just how heavy the bumper/winch combo is.

I have an aluminum front Allpro Apex plate bumper, warn 9.5 XP-S, steel sliders on my 2008 DCSB. 650 spring sagged a lot.
