I just purchased the 700lb springs from Wheeler's Off-Road. This is my second purchase through them and I have to give them a shout out for their stellar customer service. Dan is very knowledgeable and helped me pick out an Icon/Dakar suspension package about a year ago. Today, he helped me again with the new springs. They are an A++ operation that I would recommend to anyone looking for a quality product for their vehicle.

Now that the springs are on their way, does anyone have a link or info regarding how to swap the springs? I've seen some general discussions and I know I need a spring compressor, but any tutorials out there? I'm pretty handy, but I want to make sure I do it correctly.

There is actually a couple videos on YouTube showing an install of an OME kit without a spring compressor. With a high end kit like that, I wouldn't risk possibly damaging anything. I'd just pop the coilovers off and let a shop do it. Can't be that expensive.

Update on my spring swap. The 700lb coils are exactly what I needed. The ride quality of my truck has not been compromised and my front end is lifted back to pre-winch and winch mount height. I should have ordered them from the retailer this way. If anyone is thinking of swapping coils, I highly recommend the stiffer 700lb ones over the 650lb springs that come with the Icons.

so you recommend 700# even with the aluminum bumper? Do you recommend the allpro bumper? I was thinking pelfreybilt bilt but I think the allpro looks nicer somehow. If you could go back and get steel would you... Lots of questions cause I have been planning to do this.

I love my AllPro Apex Aluminum bumper but I've heard great things about pelfreybilt too. I recommend the 700# springs if you plan for a winch in that front bumper. I have a warn 9500 wps (synthetic rope) along with an aluminum front skid plate and steel sliders.

Im running a pelfreybilt hybrid with 700s and its pretty stiff. But once i get a winch and my skid plate comes i think it should be great.

By my estimation, I've got an extra 200+ pounds on the front of my taco. The 700# springs feel just right. 1/2" preload on the passenger side and an inch on the driverside to eliminate the taco lean

    Thread revival..

Hedging my bets on the 700# kings. Spoke to DSM and I'm on the bubble of 650/700 because I'm not running a winch. I am however running the same front set up and relentless fab sliders. Full skids will be in the future. Just wanted to get away from all the extra preload running 650# springs...

Well i just flipped the flop...650 it is

For reference, TRD Baja trucks come with 650lb springs from the factory with no weight on the front end.

I'm pretty sure they are only 13" coils though. That plays a bit of a difference I think. With the light aluminum armor and no winch every tw vendor swayed to 650lb extended coilovers. Even with the sliders still they said 650#...it's 100% a delicate balance and for me personally I'm not going over 2.5 up front so preload shouldn't be terrible. I'll report back in a few weeks when I get em on and give them a go.

Going to revive this thread instead of making a new one, I'm going with the Icon extended travel coilovers with uca's. I have full skids underneath along with LCA and a gas tank skid and a leer cap. Also have a mobtown front bumper receiver bar incoming as well. Should I go with the 700# springs?

I have a Doublecab Shortbed TRD Off Road

Steel bumper I'm assuming. Are you going winch? How much lift you looking for? I've got 6 threads showing up front measured pf/DF 39 5/8 & rear 39 3/4 with the Kings. Also I was on the fence and went with 650#... Rides awesome and no more cool bind I was getting with the 5100's

Eventually I'm going to do a winch, probably one that mounts to the receiver so I have something for front and back. As for the lift I'm aiming for 2-3inches.
What are you running for added weight on the truck?

I'm running 700 pound springs on my Kings and I love it. I also had 650s on my icons and they couldn't support the weight so I went to 700. I have a plate bumper, winch, and 1/4 skids.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
My 650 lb kings ride nicely.
120 lb front bumper, 85 lb front skid, some % of weight from sliders added to front load as well.
So maybe I have ~250 lb extra on the front tires.
Any more permanent weight than that though and i think 700 coils would be better.

    Bumping this thread;

Running Fox 2.5's and need some more lift when my steel bumper comes in.
2 options.. which would you do?

1)keep same spring rate(600#) but longer coil (14")
    2)higher spring rate(#700) with same length (13")
