I just posted asking if it was open but it is definitely going to need a break in with all the grading they did and supposed destruction of the hill climbs probably going to need to bring some shovels and tools to uh make sure we don't "get stuck":drevil::spy:

Alright guys so, i'm in a bind here with a week-long trip through Saline/Death valley over new years and need a pair or rear shocks ASAP!!

I ordered a beautiful set of the Fox 2.5 coilovers with remote-resi for the front and the comparable 2.5s for the rear about 2 months ago. So i got and installed my front coilovers about 3 weeks ago expecting to have my rear shocks delivered any day now because i was told by wheelers that the rears where back ordered 6 weeks when i made that order back in early october.....call them 3 days ago and they are somehow still back ordered for 6 weeks. :frusty:

Needless to say this is some very interesting math and I am now in a bind and need some stand ins while i wait for another 6 to who-knows-how-many weeks for them to show up.

I have my RTT sitting in the garage which is only going to add even dip to my rear end so I need something to put back there and am seriously considering canceling my order and mixing my front 2.5s with rear 2.0s for half the price....but i'd hate to have to do that because id rather have it all matching.

any help or ideas where I could spend that recouperated $400 by switching to the 2.0's that would ease my pain is appreciated.

I was up there in June or July and drove the road (no signs posted that it was closed and didn't realize until afterward). West Camino itself is great and smooth, but all the "features" are gone. Hill climb has several berms up the entire hill and the puddle side is completely graded down. The rocky spot on the far end is entirely gone too, unfortunately. The stand of trees that fills with mud is still there though.

I really wouldn't think of the 2.0s as a downgrade, especially since it's the rear shocks. If it were coilovers then maybe it would be a bigger bummer, but rear you probably won't really notice any loss in quality.

This might help you feel better, even though they are talking about coil overs. General consensus is basically unless you're constantly banching through the desert at high speeds you probably won't ever notice the difference.

Haha as I said I'm gonna bring some shovels and tool to make sure I don't get stuck ;) let's just say one day that me and my friends went up there we "discovered" the opening on the puddle side and another day we "discovered" the upper opening on the rocky section. Where there is a will and a capable vehicle there is a way

Agreed the only benefit of the 2.5s is oil capacity which is just to help prevent cavitation as the oil gets hotter. As @doreydeluxe said unless Ur trying to hit whoop lines which I totally am for lol but have come to the understanding that most of you guys are now overlanders you won't know the difference. My suggestion with the extra cash would to look into ordering a leaf pack to go with the new shocks to handle the weight better

So the real question is where do i spend the difference to receive maximum satisfaction
I already have the dakar leaf pack sitting in the garage...I have everything BUT the rear shocks. front end is already Installed

I'll probably be out there. Might be with Dust Junkies or BFG Pits if they go.

I'd like to join a run, but I need 24-hour notice. I commute in a Civic so I'd need to know the night before to drive the 4x4. Cool to know it's open! I love taking the long way to the hot springs from Lompoc (up Refugio Rd backside, over West and over East Camino). Sadly, all the firebreaks on East Camino are freshly graded and fenced off from dirtbikers so I would assume all the fun stuff off West is fenced/graded.

Thinking about selling my Remington 870 Tactical. Anyone here interested before I go about selling a different route?
