what is the difference between mounting the shocks on the inside of the leaf springs rather then outside? or is it mounting them on the outside of the frame ?

In terms of performance there's no difference. Mounting them outside the frame rails allows you to keep much more of your bed.

Now what about mounting the shocks on top of the axel? Any difference there?

Depends on what's limiting your uptravel and where that is located.
If my shocks were mounted on top of my axle, my shocks would be fully compressed before hitting my bumps (which is bad both in terms of reducing my uptravel, as well as eventually destroying the shocks by them acting as the bump.

If you're still running your stock leaf pack with SOA, you're not gaining or losing any travel by mounting your shocks to the top of the axle.

Stock bedsides would be the problem to that.

I have been debating if I want to get the giant sua kit, but apparently it has been modified for my truck and takes more parts to build it and that means the price is more.

giant claims they couldn't get it to work as a bolt on kit like they advertise for 1400. so they upped the price to 1700 to cover the different hangers or whatever they had to do to make it work.

Yup so if I want the sua kit I have to spend way more for it to work right. Which in the end is totally worth it.
