Yeah, it's hard enough to see the rear of the truck as it is! The cap doesn't help things either!

Mods like this have made a huge improvement to my Toy!:D

Went with the GY6.35 bulbs at 35W from Lowes. 50W right there, but didn't want to chance an electrical issue. I'm not much of a mechanic. Cinched up the terminals in the connector. Throws out a lot of light. Great, cheap, and useful mod.

Just did this Mod last night with the 886's. Wow, what a difference it makes!!! I'm never in reverse for more than 20-30secs at most. I'm gonna check my taillights in a month or so to make sure the bulbs aren't getting to hot.

Good idea. I hope you saw my post about the 886s melting the housing :anonymous:

Granted, not everyone will have the same experience as I did, but I still wish I would've gone with 894s originally.

    Quoted again for posterity:

Anyone try the 50 Watt version of this? Is the 50 watts going to be too hot?

yeah I saw that, but that was with the modified 886. The picture I quoted are of bulbs that are designed to fit in the slot (894 50W with GY6.35 hook up). I was curious if that make a difference.

The same shit everyone else has.
I went with the 35w GY 6.35s from Lowers as well.

    null_zps89069fcd_47fc858caf77b364f352c5343469ed5d353fa247.jpg

    About 5$ a piece.

Half way through the install I tested em.

After both of em were installed, the difference is amazing.

Glad I went with the 35w GY 6.35s

Thanks for the MOD! It was quick and easy.. and fun to do with the kids. Sometimes you just want to do SOMETHING to the truck. I used a hacksaw and it was fine.

Oh, and the 886s were 50W instead of the 35W used above.. I hope I don't melt anything

I bought these from Lowe's today. Hardest part was pulling the taillight unit out. Worked great! Huge difference. Thanks.

After seeing someone post this mod on FB yesterday I couldn't wait. I went with the 886's. I cut them just above the rubber ring, folder the tabs over onto themselves to make a very nice fit in the connector. They are seriously bright! Great write up. I will add a few pics of what I am talking about in a minute.

The picture of the truck. Factory bulb on the right, 886 on the left. Wish i would have done this sooner.

Be careful man... truck looks like you spend a fair amount of time off road... if you spend a lot of time in reverse, check out Benson's experience:

The 35w halogen lamps from Lowes or Home Depot really are a better option.

Meh, all these posts and 1 guy has a little bit of bubbling. Not gonna concern myself with that 1 problem. If it were more prevalent then I would worry. But thanks for your concern as always Rich.

Gotta get some pics when its not raining. Drove out behind my store after work to see how they did in the dark, they illuminate like 25-30 feet out behind the truck.

I still want to add a flood light to the rear, but for a $10 and 15minute mod this was pretty cool.

I liked the light output of the 886s, but I didn't want to risk burning my housings/receptacles. Not only was there bubbling, but the base of the receptacle itself was obviously overheated. It was discolored and seemed to "melt" the bulb in place. It was a PITA to remove the bulb.

Again, this is just my experience, so take it with a grain of salt. The one excursion that I think was to blame, I had spent about 10-15 minutes in reverse backing out of a narrow trail with no place to turn around. This is not going to be the case for 95% of people.

Either way, 894s or 886s are a vast improvement over stock.

I cant think of anytime, in the time I have had my truck, that I spent more than a few seconds in reverse. I have seen plenty of factory bulbs cause what look like burn marks on connectors. I am in no way concerned at this point with using the 886's. If there is an issue, I will post it here. But nothing you have pointed out worries me enough not to do it.
