I will definitely take a look again, like I said it's been a while, and I could have been having a brain fart that night.

    A few things
They have a few different types of bases that all look similar(Like GY6, GY6.35...). I used the GY6.35 (thats just the base size, not bulb spec) and it worked perfectly.

I used these 30W(=50W) Halogen bulbs ($7.95 each) and all I had to do was squeeze the brass clips together inside the socket like everyone mentioned. The bulbs snapped in perfectly. The whole mod took me like 10 minutes. There are many different types of these bulbs at Home Depot with different brightness and believe it or not some of the 50W bulbs have less Lumens than these 30W HALOGEN bulbs which are 750 Lumens. The Halogen bulbs pretty much look just like the incandescent bulbs so look for the word Halogen on the package. Hope this helps.

I have come to the conclusion that I was hammered while attempting the mod. Installed tonight in 10 minutes.

Just picked up the bulbs from Home Depot and installed them. Looking forward to see what it looks like in the dark.

    Thanks!

My record is 3/4 mile in reverse when I couldn't turn around. Gen 2 odometers work in reverse.

I saw your other post on these. Crazy how many more lumens they are. The ones I used are I think 250 or something :notsure: and still are so much better than stock. I'll have to keep these in mind when mine go.

So I'm assuming this will work for the 2014 to?
Most everything is the same on the 14' as the 13' right?
Please correct me if I'm wrong

I know right! I wasn't sure it would be much brighter since it's not as much lumens as the 886 or 896 type bulbs but 750 Lumens is plenty bright for me. And I'm not worried it will ever get too hot if I have to have it in reverse for a few minutes.

I just did mine last night with 35w halogens ( they were free through my 2nd job ) and there was a noticeable difference. I'd like a lot more still but that will require some low profile LED aux lighting in a 60' flood pattern.

Here's what I noticed the most. With the halogens, the filament position is spot on in the bowl of the reflector. This harnesses the light and focuses it outward much better than the OEM lamp. So now I have some more distance being lit and a little less flooding outward to the sides it seems.

Yeah, after reading this I'm gonna do the same and eventually install additional backup lights (post plate bumper). I don't stay in reverse long, but would rather air on the side of caution versus burning up a pair of smoked rear tails.

I did the one that hour did on this thread....
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/li...lb-hack-auxiliary-light-install-write-up.html

    Why.....simple
    1. There is not a good LED option at this time
    2. I want better light output from the light over a substandard LED option....and it looking pretty.
    3. I can very easy go back to stock if I wish to.

I did not do the rear facing fogs as hour did.

I used the GY6.35 Base, 35 watt ones from Home Depot.
