    hot to put in? Why was the light on when you were putting it in? Did you at least use gloves or wipe the bulb off after you put it in? On a side not I did this a little over 1.5 years ago gonna have to check them out. They look like the stock lights. Can't see a dam thin when backing up in the dark.

    Yeah, I did put it in with the truck in reverse, NOT running of course. Kind of had to do it that way being that the connection wasn't great being that the socket was burnt up.

    I used nitrile gloves to install the bulb. But, it did heat up real quick once it lit up.

    Just did this tonight, used GE 12v 50 w gy6.35 rated for 950 lumens. On clearance for 4 bucks each at Canadian tire. They are the style with just the pins, just cut about about 1/8 inch off each pin and pinched the connectors in the socket and slid them in. Nice and tight. Glad I found this mod, I've got tinted windows and a topper with tinted windows. What a huge improvement, highly recommended. I left them on for three minutes and had no ill effect. Good to go!

    Wow... I'll be keeping a close eye on mine. I may pull it out and check it in a month or so in that case. I may even go as far as taking them out for the summer... only need them in the dark short winter days here.

    Not that I have seen might wanna skim this thread..That pic of the 50w damage was posted a page or so back..I have 35w 12v pin style no issues had them in a year or so

    I attempted this mod some time ago, and just did not like the heat these bulbs put out. I ended up getting LED's for the backup lights from csjumper

    Put in the 35W bulbs from Home Depot as listed on page 14 of the thread. They went in very easy, no bending or snipping required. Great, Easy Mod, thanks guys!!!

    Here are the after photos lighting up my sisters 4Runner. I did it during the day so I don't have before pictures. This was the 35w bulb as seen on page 14 from Lowes. Works awesome

    Correct me if im wrong but isn't the packaging stating that it is a 30 watt bulb that is as bright as a 50 watt? If that's the case it shouldn't even be as hot as the 35's most guys are using.

    Not roads in general but trails. Like this one last week and it is just one of many I take often in the dark coming out after bird hunting.

    Lots of times trees fall and block them. At my age by now I've learned that R thing is often the best course of action instead of keep going forward. But a couple of inches to either side puts you in a bog, and your not getting out anytime soon.

    Wish I would have done this mod a long time ago but thinking I might have to go with LED due to heat and how long they often are on.
