I believe pre-Tacoma trucks were just called pickups. I had a 1989 Toyota pickup.
"Hilux" wasn't used in the US except for very early trucks.

I bought it used in California. The guy I bought it from did happen to be Russian, but I'm pretty sure it originated in the U.S. There was nothing strange in the registration paperwork.

Nice!!! Is it a diesel? And right side drive!! That’s possibly a 6 figure truck. I’ve seen a few of the pickup at a couple of the auctions into 5 figures. That’s awesome!!!

My '91 pick up does not look like the white Hilux you posted, Yer Grandpa. Mine is extended cab, but two doors, not four. And not such a shiny paint job!! The paint on mine is original and has spent time in the California sun.
    That's a nice looking truck!

Here’s a question, what all is compatible or what parts can be taken between a 91 pickup from the US and a 91 Hilux that’s been imported?

The paint is original single stage paint on that Hilux in the picture but it has been ceramic coated so it looks a lot shinier.

    That’s a high 5 figure possibly 6 figure truck.

Is the Hilux diesel and RHD? If so, I don't think much could be swapped.
You also have to consider DMV, insurance and emissions.

Yeah it’s the LN107- 3L Diesel - RHD - besides the front seats and upgraded radio it’s all basically stock. Rust free. Everything works perfect even the A/C. If you can find someone to pay me 6 figures I’ll sell it right now and give you 5-7% commissions hahahaha but I bought it planning for it to basically be mine forever.

Our 1972 was a Hilux. That was Toyota's name in the USA back then. OTOH our 1980 was simply a truck...

This thread always gets me excited, only to end up seeing regular (although nifty) Toyota trucks most of the time. But once in a while a superb truck like @Yer Grandpa's shows up and makes it worth hoping...

Here's an old US-market Hilux seen on the street in La Jolla (San Diego) a few years ago. That's what these were called back then IIRC.
