    The local scenery for me:

[IMG]Cotopaxi Volcano by Kevin Shaw, on Flickr

Behind the clouds is a 19,347' tall volcano that currently has steam explosions spewing ash out. Not quite erupting yet, but it's close and has everyone on edge!

At the beginning of this month! August 2-9. I'm still going through pictures, but I've posted mostly birds in the birding thread and on flickr.

Oh it was fantastic! All of the wildlife was right in front of you and the scenery was beautiful. We did a cruise, so we boated between the islands mostly during the night so we had more time at the islands. The snorkeling was awesome, too. Super clear with lots of fish, sharks, turtles, and even penguins! The last place I had been snorkeling was at the great barrier reef, though, so I expected lots of corals. Because of the frequent, high impact of the El Niño events on marine life, it's not a very good environment for corals, so we only saw a handful. Instead it was all lava rock, which was its own kind of incredible! I still haven't even touched the underwater gopro images...

Just did a hike up to the base camps of Volcan Chimborazo. At 20,564 feet above sea level, it's the highest mountain in Ecuador and the closest point to the sun on Earth due to the equatorial bulge. We only hiked to 16,600 feet, though...man is it tough to breathe up there!

Amazing views! It levels out at 13,000 feet, then at 10,000 feet below that.

My dad helped me out and jumped it. Apparently he had driven it just two weeks ago or something, so it's strange that it died. I was playing with the ham radio (got APRS to work on my tablet and my phone, woot!) but I didn't think that it was enough to drain the battery. I'll be plugging in a charger!

Put in a new Kenwood stereo and two new 4" Pioneer speakers in the front to replace the busted ones.
The stock stereo was only playing radio and the cassette player didn't work, so I couldn't plug in my phone to play my own music. Now I can listen to whatever's on my phone, too! Sooo much nicer.

Pulled open the old one to see what was rattling around inside and found a quarter!

    Old vs. new speakers:
[IMG]1010151945 by Kevin Shaw, on Flickr

The rubber surround on the other speaker had completely disintegrated.

    New radio in!

And new speakers in the stock boxes:

I have a stock replacement muffler and tailpipe assembly to replace my holy muffler but I have a rusted bolt that's now stripped, so gotta figure that out. Current plan is to weld a nut on it next weekend to bust it loose.

New muffler in! I stripped a bolt head on the bolt connecting the old one to the catalytic converter but ended up getting it out by dremeling two flat spots on either side of the head and using vice grips on it.

This is the hangar that was rattling around at low idle. The new one is already on the tailpipe.

    Quite the difference in tailpipe!

    Stock sounds perfect!
