So I have a 93 Toyota pickup. Single cab short bed 4cyl 5 speed. Love it to death but it has a very irritating habit when I take it hard wheeling. First it happend when I was on some trails near my house. Wheeling with a friend in an xj. Quite a steep hill but no big deal, low range first gear xj crawls up no problem. Okay my turn low range first gear about halfway up instead of crawling the front end starts to hop and then bang, snap a tie rod end. Grrr. Fix it, get it home replace more steering parts to try and avoid that again. Then about two months later I am wheeling at uwharrie (national forest with ohv trails) trucks doing great all day no problems at all until another very steep hill. This time I'm with a bone stock 03 Tacoma, an s10 on 31s and a basically stock explorer sport Trac. All three crawl right up the hill no issue, then I try.......hop hop hop snap.......idler arm. What is it. Only thing I can think is the truck doesn't have the torque to push the tires and it just tries to get the power out wherever it can. Do I need to re gear? Smaller tires? I love my 33s but if I can't keep up with a stock sport Trac what good are they? Thanks!

are you the original person to add the lift and tires?

Was the rear regeared and not the front?

Does it act wild on flat ground in 4x4?

No I bought it lifted, and the lift kit is a piece of Shit. The torsion bars are cranked to absolute max and it has blocks in the rear which I plan to replace all that stuff. But it hasn't been regeared (as far as I know). And the gear ratios front and back are the same. I locked in the 4x4 on the pavement to check that and it rolls smooth. (Ik not a good thong but I had to check). It's only on hills the front gets upset and goes into self destruct mode

I had the same truck and it was never like that. 89 single cab 4x4 5 speed 22re.

Stock suspension on 33's with torsion cracked high but not max.

the pics show with 31's cause 33 was damn near un drivable as a daily driver around town.

sounds to me like it obviously front end related.

Drop the torsion's down and double check the gear ratios.

Mine was a dog on the street with stock gears and 5th gear was utterly useless.

I'm getting rid of the blocks for probably shackles or an add a leaf, and I will crank down my front because my cv angles should be illegal. Maybe that will help. If not then I might drop to 32s or 31s in search of more torque.

sounds like its cv and or front diff gear related.

What would be the cv issue? I havnt checked but I wouldn't be suprised if they're both ruined from the angle. Also dropping the front will help my steering issues because my tie rods are at max angle. What in the CVS could be wrong?

they could be barely biting the teeth or be blown out from years of abuse.

Are the fins touching? if so.. they are most likely toast.

They should not be more angled than this.

Well then my cv's must be absolutely destroyed then. Like I said. Should be illegal. (Sorry for all the dirt. Still hasn't been cleaned since uwharrie.
