96 2.4 has an idle issue

I need a 4 door DC 4x4

The is my dads truck and im going off what he tells me on the phone, he say its revs in pattern, while idling the truck will raise roughly to 3k rpms, 4 times breifly and then on the 5th one will rev at 3k for about 3-4 seconds. It doesn't matter if the truck is warm or cold.

I asked him to check the coolant level, i recall a few friends over the years having a similar issue and it was low coolant. Any help is greatly appreciated.

96 Tacoma 2WD ect cab 2.4 liter

Clean the MAF, check for vacuum leaks, or cracks around the intake.
